Burgundy En Primeur 2024 Côte de Nuits
THE WINES OF THE CÔTE DE NUITS
The vineyard slopes running from Dijon to just south of Nuits St Georges are known as the Côte de Nuits, encompassing of some of Burgundy’s most famous villages; Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle Musigny, Vosne Romanée and Nuits St Georges, to name just a few.
The village of Gevrey Chambertin is recognised for producing the Côte’s fullest wines, with a dense, layered structure, and to its north the communes of Fixin and Marsannay are growing in recognition and stature. Moving south to Morey St Denis and Chambolle Musigny, we find wines which combine a striking fragrance and generosity. Between them and the town of Nuits St Georges lies the prized village of Vosne Romanée, home to so many exceptional Grands Crus vineyards such as Richebourg and Romanée St Vivant. These are famed for making wines with great precision and intensity, full of bright red fruit and mineral energy. Either side of the town of Nuits St Georges are wines under this name which were unfairly excluded from Grand Cru classification (for political rather than qualitative reasons), which are equal in quality to any of the other famous villages in the Côte.
THE 2024 VINTAGE
It is not for nothing that the apogee for many wine makers is to make a great Pinot Noir. This wonderful and highly respected grape variety is fickle and demanding, whether this be concerning location of planting, weather or handling in the winery. The 2024 seasonal challenges in the Côte de Nuits highlighted Pinot’s vulnerability to the extreme. Growers' skills were tested to a maximum, and demoralisingly, even after all their hard work, 2024 yielded the smallest crop for three generations of vignerons in the Côte d’Or. And yet, extraordinarily, out of adversity has come triumph. The final wines offer some of the finest representations of Pinot Noir and the Côte de Nuits appellations in recent times. Stylistically, they are not powerful, but have polish, purity and refinement. 2024 is a modern-day vintage which will give enormous pleasure in its youth, but has the ability to evolve and mature in bottle.

DOMAINE CHARLES AUDOIN | MARSANNAY
Rugby loving Cyril is the fifth generation of Audoins in the commune of Marsannay, the most northerly appellation of the Côte de Nuits, covering 400 hectares. Today it is rightly gaining the recognition it deserves as a fine source of high-class red wines, thanks to an enthusiastic new generation of vignerons, such as Cyril.
Despite the very small yields in 2024, the impact of hail at Pentecost in May, and the challenging seasonal conditions, there was an air of excitement in the village of Marsannay. The rightful upgrading of 14 of the communes most respected lieux dits to Premier Cru status is imminent and hopefully will become official in 2026. At last, the appellation is getting the recognition it rightly deserves… As to the wines in 2024, Cyril is frustrated that the talk is all about quantity rather than quality. He likens the wines development in cask to the 2010 vintage. As he says after the 2009 harvest nobody talked about the 2010s and yet they not only evolved and took shape in cask but have since developed to be one of the finest vintages this century. Whilst still early days, he feels the transition of the 2024 wines in cask has been immense, taking on depth and sophistication. His attentive approach in the vineyard enabled him to remain organic despite the climatic challenges. No whole bunch this year and with the tiny volumes, Cyril adjusted the barrel elevage from his normal practice of 25% new oak, to only using 1 year old casks. His priority was to let the true Pinot appellational expression shine through. This domaine is on a roll and Cyril has made a glorious range in 2024.
Marsannay Cuvée Marie Ragonneau
£165.00 per 6 bottles IB
Named in honour of Cyril’s great-grandmother, who lost her husband in World War One but still managed to keep the estate intact to pass on to the next generation. The fruit for this cuvée comes from the Domaine's oldest vines in five different locations across the Marsannay commune and as such makes for a fantastic expression of the village style. An abundance of red cherry aromatics, a supple and charming style. This is always the Domaine's most approachable cuvée in its youth and it shows Pinot Noir purity at its absolute best.
Drink 2026 - 2034.
Marsannay Clos du Roy
£195.00 per 6 bottles IB
Located to the north of the commune on a steep, east-facing slope over a bedrock of hard Comblanchien limestone, this vineyard produces one of Marsannay’s more powerful wines. Sometimes a cuvée that needs time to show its charms, in 2024, it is a juicier and more succulent style, with a lovely expression of fleshy ripe fruit. The finish ends with some deeper, dark black forest fruit flavours, remaining long and continuous giving a feeling of complexity and depth.
Drink 2027 - 2038.
Marsannay Les Longeroies
£195.00 per 6 bottles IB
Awaiting its upgrade to Premier Cru status, the Longeroies vineyard sits at the north of the Marsannay commune and is split in two, with the upper part sited on limestone slabs and the lower composed of reddish marl. A classy vineyard which always achieves the very highest quality in bottle. An array of late summer fruits, fresh currant, damson and a sweetening sensation of syrup of cherries. A very layered wine, with a fine tannic composition. The structure of the marl soil contributes to a fine body with a long and meticulous finish.
Drink 2027 - 2038.
Gevrey Chambertin
£255.00 per 6 bottles IB
The vines for this cuvée are on average 60-years-old, bringing a wealth of complexity and depth to this village-level Gevrey. There are two sources of fruit, Les Crais and Les Coisettes to the north and west of the village. An abundant scent of freshly picked strawberries, with a great clarity of red fruits on the palate. The finish has a creamy sensation and hints of mocha and spice. A very fine village cuvée. Drink 2028 - 2040.
DOMAINE GEANTET PANSIOT |
GEVREY CHAMBERTIN
Taking its name from founder Edmond Geantet and his wife Bernadette Pansiot, this 70-year-old domaine is now run by son Vincent Geantet and his children Fabien and Emilie. Having outgrown their historical cellars, they have invested heavily in a new winery and today they are reaping the rewards from all the additional space. Their traditional style is to destem 100%, while preferring to have a short period of cool maceration prior to fermentation starting to enhance the colour and aromatic content of their wines.
We had a fantastic tasting this Autum with their Sales Manager, Erwann Boivot, in the charming cellar full of the family’s wines from all over the world. Erwann told us that it had been a devastating year, with yields down 70% in certain appellations, especially the Hautes Côtes. The wines are all kept for 12 months in barrel with between 20-25% new oak, but very gently toasted barrels as they believe this imparts greater suppleness to the wines.
Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits
£130.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
A fabulous expression of the purity of Pinot Noir. Vibrant and expressive, with so much openness and easy-drinking approachability. The wine has indulgent notes of fruits of the forest and wild bramble with a redcurrant freshness. Smooth and subtle tannins. One of the parcels of this blend contains a touch more limestone content, resulting in a refreshing finish. Drink 2026 2032.
Marsannay Rouge Les Longerois
£195.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
This steeply sloped vineyard always produces one of the estate’s most charming wines. An exposed site with hard, rocky soils, there is a beautiful balance between deep, dark black plum and cherry, suede-like tannins and a gorgeous toasted almond texture. This is brooding but refined, with plenty to delight the drinker. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
£310.00 per 6 bottles IB
The domaine has an expanse of 3 hectares of village Gevrey, covering 17 different parcels, aged between 75 and 92 years old. The vines create a deep and complex Gevrey, with sweet, luscious blackberry fruit kept beautifully in check by a strict backbone of minerality and notes of thyme, rosemary and leather. Extremely powerful and concentrated. Drink 2026 - 2036.
Gevrey Chambertin En Champs
£350.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
Very old vines planted in 1903 give so much energy to this rich, full-bodied Gevrey. Sourced from limestone-rich vineyards, the wine shows remarkable concentration of black fruit, supported by powerful, smooth tannins. There is a lovely silky quality to the texture, with the terroir contributing depth and complexity, and it finishes with a seductively long, fresh persistence.
Drink 2030 - 2045.
Chambolle Musigny Vieilles Vignes
£385.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
This wine comes from 3 vineyards, Les Pas de Chats, Les Athets and Les Fouchères, planted over 70 years ago. The nose is beautiful and extremely delicate, with notes of jasmine and rose. Sweet and juicy red and black fruit mingle on the palate – black plum and blackberry with freshly picked raspberry. This is supported by the 25% new oak, which brings some sweet spice and smoke. Understated power and structure with silken tannins. Drink 2026 - 2035.
Gevrey Chambertin Cuvée Edmond
£385.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
[Not tasted] Named after Fabien’s grandfather Edmond, who died in 2020 and purchased the first parcel of the vineyard in 1954. He was such a driving force behind the domaine. This is the only cuvée at the domaine to be 100% whole bunch fermented, respecting the traditions of the past. Dark and intense with firm structure and ripe tannins with a very mineral freshness.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Le Poissenot
£575.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
Named after a medieval fishpond, Poissenot is a continuation of La Romanée, where the soil’s high stone content gives the wine its layered, mineral style. Vibrant and bright on the nose, there is great balance between an intense dried fruit character and very ripe red and black berries. Long and dark in the mid-palate leading to lacy and refreshing tannins. This has a powerful core that keeps on giving.
Drink 2027 - 2038.
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru
£345.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
In this small vintage, the decision was to blend their three Chambolle Premiers Crus together, Feusselottes, Les Baudes and Les Plantes, and it has created a stunning wine. This has a flaky pastry and plum tart nose with plenty of ripe black berry and notes of dried oregano and light toastiness. Moreish sweet clove and a hint of liquorice linger on the long and rich finish. This is tasting excellent now but will develop beautifully with a few years in bottle. Drink 2026 - 2042.
Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
£510.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
Geantet Pansiot’s flagship cuvée, the family have a generous 0.45 hectares of this great Grand Cru. Everything you could want from a Charmes, this has a powerful muscular structure with fantastic openness and a fresh and bright lift on the palette. Intense dark fruit dominates with lines of smoke, cedar and rosemary. Firm but smooth tannins with flavours of cherry support the long and lingering finish. Drink 2026 - 2042.
DOMAINE DROUHIN LAROZE |
GEVREY CHAMBERTIN
Founded in 1850, this sizeable domaine of 12 hectares is now in the hands of the fifth and sixth generations, parents Christine and Philippe, and children Caroline and Nicolas. They have an embarrassment of riches within their armoury of four Premiers Crus and six exceptional Grands Crus, culminating with plots of both Clos de Bèze and Le Musigny. They also boast one of the finest two storey cellars in the Côte d’Or, built by members of the Prussian military on their way back from the Hundred Years War. Such was their skill, even back then, these cellars maintain the perfect temperatures for the Domaine’s policy of two-year élevage in cask.
Tasting the 2024 vintage with Nathalie in front of a crackling fire was one of the highlights of our buying trip. Having made ‘only’ 50% of their typical yield due to the hard weather conditions, they are very proud of what they have achieved, and rightly so. They were able to use just 9 sprays in the vineyard, perfectly timed to maximise the efficiency of the treatments. They are also extremely careful with their canopy management, ensuring that the grapes have as much airflow as possible. This is a typically classy range from Drouhin Laroze with the wines showing freshness and density despite the smaller quantities.
Gevrey Chambertin Dix Climats
£255.00 per 6 bottles IB
Four hectares of village Gevrey Chambertin in ten different locations is a sizeable parcel and, as a result, this cuvée is a superb example of this famous Côte de Nuits appellation. Sweet red fruits are complemented by dark spice and an edge of bitter black cherry. They have used 40% oak in this cuvee which adds a lovely texture and warmth which hugs the mouth. The grapes were all vinified together which brings harmony and balance to the richness and structure. A classic for any Gevrey lover.
Drink 2027-2038.
Gevrey Chambertin En Champs
£340.00 per 6 bottles IB
An old 0.32 hectare vineyard with vines that are 60-years-old. It sits just below the Premier Cru Champeaux on the northern edge of the village. This has a bright and energetic red cherry nose which is reflected on the palate along with a wonderful mineral core of freshness. Tightly knitted and extremely elegant, this Gevrey develops masses of wild black fruit flavours that evolve into lines of sweetness with a light toasty character. Tannins that are grippy but perfectly ripe and pleasurable.
Drink 2028 - 2040.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Craipillots
£450.00 per 6 bottles IB
The name Craipillots is a reference to the stony soils in the vineyard, which sits between the Domaine and Combe Lavaux. This is a very flat and mineral site. The familiar whole bunch aromas are here, wild strawberry and sharp cranberry with direct mineral intensity. Its quietly powerful nature sits behind ripe black plum on tasting with a long and complex finish. Extremely sophisticated.
Drink 2027 - 2044.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Closeau
£450.00 per 6 bottles IB
Sitting opposite Mazis-Chambertin, this is a beautiful 0.53 hectare plot which faces east. They have to green harvest the vines carefully to control the vigour and ensure good concentration. 15-20% whole bunch and 40% very lightly toasted new oak was used this year, which allows for perfect balance. Black and red cherry on the nose, this has a delicious raspberry and morello cherry flavour profile with sweet cooking spices and a round, vanilla finish. Very charming. Drink 2030 - 2045.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur
£460.00 per 6 bottles IB
This Premier Cru owes its name to the Prior of the Abbaye de Cluny. This monastery historically owned all the great Gevrey Chambertin vineyards, and this was a favourite plot with the Prior at that time. A tinge of sweet smoke and very pure blackberries, with complex flavours of sweet spice and herbes de Provence. Extremely fine and ripe tannins add to the luscious finish.
Drink 2030 - 2042.
Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru
£450.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
A very old vine parcel, planted by Nicolas and Caroline’s grandfather in the 1960s. Only 4 barrels made this year, so quantities are very limited. The grapes from this site are late to ripen on the old vines which allows them to slowly develop complexity and a spiced nature. The berries are always small and concentrated giving flavours of blackberries and herbal notes of rosemary and dried oregano. Perfect ripeness was achieved here with gentle succulence and fine tannins.
Drink 2029 - 2045.
Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru
£465.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The Drouhin Laroze plot is one of the very best in this appellation, named after the place of worship, just below Chambertin Clos de Bèze and 0.53 hectares. 20% whole bunch has been used here to balance the higher proportion of new oak. Flavours of crushed redcurrants and raspberry bring refinement and lift to the cuvée, with a tonka bean note and very fine texture. The pretty and gentle nose belies the serious personality of wine with its never-ending finish and succulent, suede-like tannins. A spectacular Grand Cru.
Drink 2029 - 2045.
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
£495.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
Lying at the top of the Clos just by the Château, in a parcel called “des Papes” reputedly reserved for the Popes of Avignon, the Drouhin Laroze hectare of vines is one of the very best positioned in Clos de Vougeot. A supremely concentrated wine, dense flavours of cassis and cherry and complemented by cinnamon and touches of liquorice. This has a broad and generous feel with power generated from the very small grapes that are harvested. Brilliant vibrancy keeps this wine marching forwards and will ensure delight when opened in years to come.
Drink 2030 - 2050.
Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
£585.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The family holding is a substantial 1.5 hectares in a wonderful location within the Chambolle Musigny sector of the appellation. Said to be named after a trinity of Roman goddesses of fertility, “bonnes mères”, the white marl soil here produces a generous and full style of wine. This wine is incredibly mineral and fresh, with broad brushstrokes of juicy bramble and wild fruits of the forest that develop in the mouth. A delightful herbal nature with rosemary and thyme and sweet smoke. Amazing finesse, with a long finish that is teeming with fresh red-fruit too. This is discreetly luxurious with fine-grained tannins that last. Perfectly balanced. Drink 2028 - 2045.
Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
£615.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
This great Grand Cru was a favourite of the monks of Cluny in the early days of classification. The Drouhin Laroze 1.5 hectares are particularly important; planted in 1949 they are over 70 years old and produce fruit of exceptional quality and intensity. The 2024 vintage may have reduced the availability of this wine, but it has not dampened the intensity and power. Super fresh with striking dark berry and chocolate notes, with a present, sweet clove spice and jasmine floral nature. Elegant and brooding, this lasts forever on the finish and is moreish-ly silky.
Drink 2028 - 2050.
DOMAINE TORTOCHOT | GEVREY CHAMBERTIN
The Tortochot family have been respected vignerons in Gevrey Chambertin since the 19th century, but in recent times under the stewardship of Chantal Tortochot a notable transition has taken place. After 15 years of working in the oil industry, Chantal moved back to the estate to convert it from being a supplier of fine quality fruit to the négociant house Joseph Drouhin, to creating her own family domaine. In 2008 she took the next step by converting her 12 hectares to fully organic. Since then, the domaine has never looked back and is today recognised as one of the finest sources of wines from Gevrey Chambertin and neighbouring communes.
Chantal always favours an early bottling policy giving most of her wines no more than 12 months barrel elevage which worked to her advantage in 2024. This excellent range really captures the joyous primary Pinot fruit characters for each of the appellations. Her winemaking philosophy is simple and traditional; rightly or wrongly she avoids new wave fashions of amphora and the like. In her view, oak is the lifeblood for a wine in its youth, a steady supply of oxygen allowing the wines to evolve. Her 2024s will give delightful early drinking and are the epitome of this vintage in Burgundy.
Morey St Denis
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB
This cuvée comes from three separate lieux dits on the lower slopes of Morey St Denis: Aux Chesseaux, Clos des Ormes and Les Crais. Chantal’s early bottling philosophy preserves the fruit purity showing off the quality of the commune. Light brick red colour, attractive red cherry aromas, a delicately refined style, silky and polished Morello cherry flavours, with lifted freshness. Enjoy in its youth.
Drink 2027 - 2037.
Gevrey Chambertin Champerrier Vieilles Vignes
£265.00 per 6 bottles IB
From a selection of 100-year-old vines planted by Felix Tortochot in 1920 at the bottom of Côte St Jacques, this cuvée is a very rewarding example of village Gevrey. Rich and juicy, verging on the ostentatious, with ripe bilberry and damson aromas and a lacing of cocoa powder. Lavish, full and plump in the palate, all kept perfectly in place by its sense of vigour and freshness. An excellent central core of fruit, with a tight tannic profile. This has great length and is a classy village cuvée. Drink 2027 - 2040.
Morey St Denis Cuvée Renaissance
£345.00 per 6 bottles IB
[Not Tasted] This is a particularly special cuvée for Chantal, named for its return to the domaine after 36 years on a leasehold her father set up with a neighbour. Always a beautiful expression of Morey St Denis, which is in itself an appellation reborn. It combines a sense of Chambolle charm with Gevrey structure and density.
Morey St Denis 1er Cru Aux Charmes
£375.00 per 6 bottles IB
Morey St Denis’s Premier Cru Aux Charmes adjoins Mazoyères Grand Cru. Legend has it that, if it had fallen within the more powerful parish of Gevrey Chambertin, it would have been classified as a Grand Cru. Light cherry red colour, with a perfume of cranberry and fresh red berry. Delicious volume, rich and voluptuous. A very mouthwatering style, and its appealing saline edge combines perfectly with a sweet flavour of syrup of grenadine at the end. Gorgeous! Drink 2027 - 2045.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Champeaux
£385.00 per 6 bottles IB
[Not Tasted] A well-positioned Premier Cru on the northern border of the commune alongside Brochon. The vineyard’s clay soil gives a depth of fruit that allows Chantal to age this cuvée in 50% new oak. Always a very structured and composed Premier Cru.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St Jacques
£425.00 per 6 bottles IB
Lavaux St Jacques is one of Gevrey’s highest vineyards, renowned for making wines of great elegance. The cooling high altitude is offset by its southerly exposure, and the benefits always shine through in this excellent cuvée. Radiant Georgian brick red colour, an absolute medley of sweet confit fruit jumps out of the glass. The immediate impression is a wine of substance and classy depth. Superb structure, the tannins provide noticeable body and whilst it closes down on the finish, there is no doubting it quality and age worthiness. Drink 2028 - 2047.
Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru
£595.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The vineyards of Mazis Chambertin sit between Clos de Bèze Grand Cru and the village of Gevrey Chambertin and are respected for making deep and powerful wines. Tasting at this early stage, there is an abundant scent of wild hedgerow fruits. On the palate, it is a little more reserved. More ethereal than some years, focusing a little more on refinement rather than power in 2024. Striking and graceful.
Drink 2029 - 2052.
Chambertin Grand Cru
£750.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The jewel in Tortochot’s crown; almost 0.5 hectares of Gevrey’s greatest Grand Cru at one of the highest locations within the vineyard, sitting just below the tree line. Having had the joy of making seven barrels in 2023, sadly Chantal was brought back to earth in 2024, with just one cask giving a meagre 300 bottles! This really is a rarity this year. Brilliant shining cranberry red colour, a lavish scent of wild Alpine fruits, coated with cinnamon and Arabian spice. A very controlled and composed style, this has the texture and body of a great vineyard location with an extraordinary impression of self-confidence! Full, rich and powerful; a sensationally good wine. Drink 2029 - 2055.
DOMAINE SÉRAFIN PÈRE & FILS |
GEVREY CHAMBERTIN
It was with great sadness that we heard that Christian whose name sits proudly on the label passed away in his 9th decade this summer. He contributed so much to the style and quality at the domaine as he became a vanguard in the appellation in the post war years and beyond. It must have given him immense pride to see his daughter Karine and niece Frédérique Gouley continue in the same vein. The family mantra is one of exceptionally hard work in the vineyards, “without good fruit, you can never make great wine.” They have a fine selection of very old vines, which Frédérique destems 100%, and remains committed to Christian’s philosophy of 100% new oak for the main cuvées. She says it is the Domaine’s signature. They work with two coopers, Taransaud and François Frères, and past vintages show that this approach makes wines with a fine ability to age.
Sadly, the Sérafin’s late pruning policy which traditionally extends the vines dormancy period after the stresses of the previous harvest, were unable to completely save them from the effects of a spring frost. The potential yields were further impacted by a cool flowering season meaning production is down from their traditional 30,000 bottles to a minute 10,000 i.e. just 850 cases this year. We tasted thimbleful measures of wine, so as not to waste any. However, what did touch our lips is of superlative quality. Frédérique feels comparisons to the 2021 vintage are wrong for two main reasons, 21 was a much colder year, in 24 it wasn’t cold, and although wet, the big difference in her view is the heat prior to the harvest this year, which ripened and sweetened the fruit, giving the wines more charm and polish.
Bourgogne Rouge
£175.00 per 6 bottles IB
Crafted using 50/50 new and one-year-old barrels, this is a Bourgogne rouge focussing on darker fruit characters. Flavours of blueberry and cassis, it has a juicy silky richness with a feeling of Gevrey structure and depth. Drink 2026 - 2036.
Gevrey Chambertin
£250.00 per 6 bottles IB
100% destemmed and an elevage of 50% new oak and 50% one year old casks. This is a superb appellational cuvée coming from 7 different locations in the village with vineyards averaging 40 years of age. Initially a little reserved in its scent, but on the palate it really opens and delivers, with an excellent degree of richness. The fruit coats the oak, which gives hints of ground coffee and mocha undertones. The tannins have a soft sense of charm, and the finish has a fine attractive sweetness making for a very pleasing style. Drink 2027 - 2040.
Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes
£325.00 per 6 bottles IB
If one wine were to embody the viticultural philosophy at Domaine Sérafin, then this would be it. Made from five separate plots, which are home to vines aged from 70 to well over 100 years old. Unsurprisingly this old vine cuvée is a more robust style. Smokey dark fruits aromas, with a lacquer of liquorice. A full-bodied wine, with a noticeable degree of substance and fruit weight. The tannins tightly interweave between the body of fruit, and the finish has a rewarding dark berry sweetness to it. A high-class village cuvée. Drink 2028 - 2042.
Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes
£425.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
A number of famous domaines have holdings in Les Millandes, a highly regarded site which lies just below Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. The Sérafin cuvée comes from 60-year-old vines, benefiting from a fine clay/limestone bedrock. Brimming with black forest fruits, hints of Asian spices, nutmeg and cinnamon. A greater focus on density and intense dark berry sweetness come to mind. The broad tannins sit comfortably alongside the ripe fruit flavours and provide a feeling of textural distinction on the finish. Drink 2029 - 2040.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux
£450.00 per 6 bottles IB
The walled Corbeaux vineyard (named for the crows who flocked to the site in the Middle Ages) lies in a small dip beside Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru and is famed for producing wines of finesse, which are always very affable in their youth. An array of wild hedgerow and autumnal fruits aromatically. This wine was absolutely singing when we tasted from cask, exuding a plump ripeness of fruit, with a delicious generosity. The tannins have a round velvety texture, and the beautiful flavours linger in the memory for a very long time. Drink 2028 - 2045.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Fonteny
£560.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
The east-west aspect of Fonteny means that the vineyard receives sunshine exposure throughout the day, normally a huge advantage in a more difficult year. But even its superb position was unable to save it from the pressures in 2024. A paltry 2 casks, giving just 50 cases (600 bottles), have been made this year! A darker more brooding style than some of the other wines in the Sérafin cellar this year. Hints of blackberry and Morello cherry, laced with vanilla pod. An excellent impression of sweet ripeness and a feeling of great composure.
Drink 2028 - 2047.
Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes
£610.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
With a similar soil make up to that of nearby Bonnes Mares, the superb Baudes site produces wines which are comparable to its Grand Cru neighbour. Floral, summer fruit nose, tayberry and loganberry. On the palate the wine is a little more shy. The sweet vanilla oak and its supporting tannins are a little controlling at this early stage which is to be expected as Sérafin are famed for their firmer style of Chambolle where weight and depth of flavour are the order of the day. The potential though is immense. This is destined to be a very fine cuvée.
Drink 2030 - 2045.
Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers
£720.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
Arguably one of Gevrey’s most esteemed Premiers Crus sites, the wines of Cazetiers are renowned for their elegance and complexity. The Sérafin parcel sits on the lower slopes just behind the domaine’s cuverie, neighbouring Clos St Jacques. Aromatically intense, wild alpine fruits and pine kernel. A serious wine with a great drive of mineral energy, tremendous poise, the fruit absorbs the tight linear structure. This is a wine which offers the perfect balance between power and charm. A brilliant wine in the making. Drink 2029 - 2050.
Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru
£620.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The Sérafins own a third of a hectare of this magnificent Grand Cru split in two parcels part in Charmes and part in Mazoyères Chambertin with an average age of 70 years. In 2024 the total production is just 300 bottles, as opposed to a normal harvest of 1,200 Bottles. The quality of this wine leaps out of the glass. Aromas of berry fruit coulis. The palate shows off a silky richness; it is so layered and full. The tannins, whilst providing depth, sit beautifully beneath the classy abundant fruit. The mouth-watering freshness on the finish gives lift and a bright rewarding longevity. One of the stars of the 2024 vintage for us.
Drink 2030 - 2050.
DOMAINE LOUIS BOILLOT |
GEVREY CHAMBERTIN
Louis’s 29-year-old son, Clément, is now firmly in charge of both this domaine and his mother, Ghislaine Barthod’s, estate in Chambolle Musigny. Come the harvest, he’s a very busy vigneron indeed! Clément is steadfast in continuing the domaine’s pursuit of pure, unadorned fruit characters. To this end, he destalks all the fruit and undertakes a light, cool maceration in advance of the alcoholic fermentation. Since 2020, he has also introduced 500-litre barrels for certain cuvées to reduce the oak impact on the final wines.
Clément faced the challenges of the vintage head-on and expressed great satisfaction in creating great wines in such a difficult year. In Gevrey, yields were as low as 8-15 hectolitres per hectare. The smaller production meant that their use of oak has been tweaked to avoid any overt oakiness. They have succeeded in making terroir-driven wines that show their appellation differences perfectly.
Gevrey Chambertin
£270.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
Made with the fruit from eight different parcels across the village of Gevrey, this cuvée benefits from a variety of terroirs which make a perfect example of their elegant and approachable village style. This has a great fruit-forward nature, brimming with baked dark plum and brambles and a drive of stoniness straight through the middle. The tannins are of great quality, fluid and effortless but with enough structure to uphold the fruit and bring a powerful structure. Drink 2027 - 2036.
Chambolle Musigny
£300.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
This cuvée contains fruit from three separate parcels of vines within Chambolle and expresses all the charm and finesse of the village. A very pretty, floral nose with rose and peony and a touch of chalkiness. The ripeness of the fruit is perfect, juicy but not cloying with blackberry and a touch of bright cranberry with epic freshness. Amazing length and fine tannins make this open for immediate pleasure.
Drink 2027 - 2035.
Gevrey Chambertin Les Evocelles
£172.00 per 3 bottles IB | Very Limited

This is such an interesting and expressive wine with herbal aromas and a minty freshness with a sprinkling of white pepper. The wine displays Boillot’s signature structure, balanced by freshness and impressive length. Charming already, it also has excellent aging potential. Drink 2028 - 2042.
DOMAINE DE L' ARLOT | NUITS ST GEORGES
Domaine de l’Arlot is AXA Millésimes flagship estate in the Côte d’Or forming a part of their wine property portfolio, including Ch Pichon Baron in Pauillac, Ch Suduiraut in Sauternes and Port house, Quinta do Noval. Managed by Technical Director Geraldine Godot, this fine 14-hectare estate includes two of Nuits St Georges’ most famous monopole vineyards on its southern-most boundary; Clos de l’Arlot and Clos des Forêts St Georges.
Geraldine has overseen the final conversion of the domaine’s vineyards to biodynamic practices. She is committed to the view that healthy land and a healthy environment are paramount for making the very best wines, with terroir identity at their heart. Whilst her faith was tested to the limit in 2024, with an average harvest production of 8 hl/ha, the quality is outstanding with her wines expressing vineyard integrity at its very best. The 2024 allocation is the smallest we have had in 40 years working with the domaine. Our advice is simple, followers of the domaine, buy now as this could be your only chance!

Côtes de Nuits Villages Clos du Chapeau
£178.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited

Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot
£455.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
The dramatic topography of this walled, monopole vineyard is due partly to a natural fault line and partly to historic quarrying. The soils here are a mixture of marl, limestone and white oolite, giving an intricate, nuanced complexity to this Pinot Noir. A scent of bright fresh crunchy red fruits exudes energy and excitement. A wine subtle in its substance, focusing on complexity, with an ethereal texture. The suede-like tannic composition makes for an exceptionally polished style. Graceful and balletic, but not to be misinterpreted, because there is wine of great structure underneath.
Drink 2027 - 2049.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts St Georges
£455.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
Domaine de l’Arlot is 15 hectares in total and their largest monopole, Clos des Forêts St Georges, accounts for an impressive 7.2 hectares. Alongside Les St Georges, which sits immediately to the north, Clos des Forêts is considered by many to merit Grand Cru status. Simmering wild bramble fruit and Asian spice aromas. The immediate attack is a wine with plumpness and volume, ahead of a small berry fruit tightness, providing intensity and structure. A mass of tayberry and loganberry, encourage a juicy sweetness in the mid-palate, and the vintage freshness encourages the flavours to linger beautifully for a very long time.
Drink 2029 - 2053.
Vosne Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots
£475.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
Nestled between the Grands Crus of Romanée St Vivant, Echézeaux and Richebourg, it is no surprise that Les Suchots is one of Vosne-Romanée’s most highly acclaimed Premiers Crus. The nose is more brooding in nature, full of spice and a menthol scent, intertwined with pine kernel. On the palate, the wine shows its true colours, less reserved than some years, open and generous. The tannins are soft and round stealing quietly beneath a fine sweetness of loganberry fruit and nutmeg spice. A more delicate style of Suchots than some vintages, but there is no doubting its pedigree. Drink 2028 - 2052.
Romanée St Vivant Grand Cru
£575.00 per single bottle IB | On Allocation
The Arlot parcel of Romanée St Vivant is as fine as it gets, sitting directly below the great Romanée Conti, with just a 10-foot lane separating them. A perfumed medley of fresh red fruits, cherry, raspberry and cranberry. Its opening salvo is one of refinement and delicacy. Enticingly fresh strawberry fruit flavours dance across the tongue, but as with all great wines, it slowly builds with a crescendo of quality. The fine sandy tannins and central kernel of fruit give great poise and substance. A wine of true distinction that will give pleasure to a generation and more. Drink 2030 - 2060.
DOMAINE TRUCHETET | NUITS ST GEORGES
Morgan Truchetet, alongside his wife Pauline and his sister Julie, took over the running of the 6-hectare family domaine in 2019. It is thanks to Pauline that we discovered these wines when we introduced them to our portfolio three years ago; she has been a close friend for many years, first during her time working first at Domaine de l’Arlot and then assisting Bruno Colin in Chassagne Montrachet. The estate wines are mostly focused around Nuits St Georges, with two more recent additions which Pauline inherited from her grandparents’ estate in 2022.
2020 saw the conversion to full organic practices. In conjunction with this, the Truchetets are transforming their vineyards by adjusting the trellising and pruning methods to adapt to climate change (higher training). Their aim is to maximise photosynthesis but also protect the bunches by creating leaf shade if required during the hotter years. This also gives the ability to open up the canopy in less sunny or wetter seasons freeing up air flow and providing some protection against disease. In 2024 they benefitted from the latter, and such was Morgan’s confidence in the phenolic ripeness of his bunches at harvest time, he did 100% whole cluster vinification for all his domaine wines in 2024.
Saint Romain Blanc Au Bas de Poillange
£190.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
The vineyards of Saint Romain are the highest in the Côte d’Or, sitting between 350 and 410m above sea level, and their soils contain a significant proportion of active limestone. 70% fermented in oak barrels, and the rest in clay amphorae. Auxey-Duresses Le Plain de Lugny
£170.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
The Plain de Lugny vineyard sits towards the western end of a crescent-shaped swathe of vineyards that runs south-west from Saint Romain, along the line of the Melin rivulet. Pauline’s grandfather planted Pinot Fin vines here in 1972, banking on the site’s limestone soils and full southern exposure. Because of the natural intensity of the clones here, Pauline destalked 100% of the fruit for this cuvée. A perfumed scent of peony, fresh raspberry and bilberry. Naturally concentrated, this combines density with the characteristic freshness one expects from the best reds in Auxey.
Drink 2027 - 2036.
Côte de Nuits Villages
£175.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
The fruit for this cuvée comes from three plots situated underneath the hill of Comblanchien on light, friable clay soils. This terroir brings a darker fruit profile to the wine: blueberry, Morello cherry and cocoa powder. Plusher in style than many for the appellation, this has the richness of fruit that one expects from a wine of a more senior origin, with a long pleasing sweetness on the finish.
Drink 2027 - 2036.

Nuits St Georges Vieilles Vignes
£320.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
The grapes for this cuvée come from two neighbouring lieux dits just outside Prémeaux Prissey; Les Charbonnières, where Truchetet’s vines are 10Eliz0 years old, and Les Topons, where they are 70 years old. Unsurprisingly this is a flagship wine for the estate and an example of why aged vines are so protected and revered in the Côte d’Or. A deep dark berry personality, blackcurrant and black forest fruits, with a lacing of vanilla oak sweetness. Impressively concentrated and very long. A very special cuvée as always. Drink 2028 - 2042.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les Vallerots
£398.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
The smallest of Premiers Crus in Nuits St Georges, just two small strips of land making up 0.8 hectares on the southerly side of the town above Cherbaudes and Perrières. DOMAINE FRANÇOIS LEGROS |
NUITS ST GEORGES
Domaine Legros spans 6.5 hectares, covering appellations in Nuits St Georges, Chambolle Musigny and Morey St Denis. It is the epitome of a family holding: winemaker François took on the vineyards from his parents and uncle at the end of the 1980s and in 1999 he acquired yet more vines from his father-in-law. The latest chapter sees François joined by his two daughters, Charlotte, a graduate of the Lycée Viticole de Beaune who manages the vineyard, and Laure, who looks after the commercial side of the business.
Charlotte and Laure have implemented new ideas and approaches, such as a new sorting table that allowed for bunch-by-bunch selection during the 2023 harvest, using Laure’s husband’s cooperage for their barrels, and constantly re-planting vines to ensure the highest quality of fruit. However, they work the fragile vines of their oldest vineyard sites by hand to prevent damage and preserve soil health. This really is a domaine where two generations are working in harmony together, resulting in an impressive range of classy, yet understated Côtes de Nuits.
St Aubin 1er Cru Murgers des Dents de Chien

The oak adds whisps of vanilla and toast that add complexity and complement the fine-grained tannins. The high chalk content of the soil makes itself known in the vibrant finish. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Morey St Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes
£260.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited

DOMAINE FAIVELEY | NUITS ST GEORGES
The Faiveley family have a long history in Nuits St Georges dating back to 1825. From this time, they have been one of the most influential names in the Côte d’Or. The estate is now run by the seventh generation, brother and sister Erwan and Eve. Each generation has had a significant impact on the family business, acquiring land and developing their wines. Today the family own an extraordinary 120 hectares, from Domaine Billaud-Simon in Chablis through the Côte d’Or and down into the Côte Chalonnaise, including an impressive 27 hectares of Premiers Crus and 12 hectares of Grands Crus. Since taking over, Eve and Erwan have overseen the purchase of two domaines in the Côte de Beaune, including a parcel of Grands Crus Bienvenues and Bâtard Montrachet, as well as vineyards in Volnay and Pommard, and a further 20 hectares in Gevrey Chambertin, including Grand Cru Charmes Chambertin.
The cathedral-styled winemaking facilities in the heart of Nuits St Georges sit above some of the most extensive 18th century cellars in the Côte d’Or, providing the space to make wines with extraordinary attention to detail. Erwan has decided to bottle the 2024 vintage earlier than usual to protect the wine from too much oak influence and to retain beautiful freshness in the wines. The average yield for their red wines was 20 hl/ha due to the catastrophic volume of rain during flowering, but what they have created is of exceptional quality and made to age.
