Burgundy En Primeur 2024 Côte de Beaune
THE WINES OF THE CÔTE DE BEAUNE
The Côte de Beaune covers the 20 miles south of Nuits St Georges, from Aloxe Corton through Beaune to Chagny. It is most strongly associated with the great white wines of Corton Charlemagne, Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet, but also produces some exceptional reds from the villages of Savigny lès Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Beaune itself and less well known Maranges and Chorey Les Beaune.
The accepted norm for the white wines is that Meursault produces the fullest and creamiest wines, Puligny the purest, combining limestone minerality with honeyed florality, and the villages of Chassagne and St Aubin are more structured, leaning towards earthy terroir rusticity. These characteristics are arguably less apparent today, due to advancements in wine making and climatic changes, but they still in part remain true. The greatest stylistic influence though, as always, comes from the producer and their own preferred style of wine.
The Côte de Beaune’s red wines have historically been overshadowed by those from the Côte de Nuits. Today, this is not so much the case, as both the quality and individuality of each of the different villages’ wines become more and more appreciated. Surrounding the town of Beaune, wines under its name and Chorey produce fine and floral examples of Pinot Noir. In Savigny the wines are fuller with an earthier texture, whilst its neighbours’ wines from Pernand shine with mineral brightness. South of the town lies the Côte’s most famous red villages; Pommard a source of incredibly intense, long-lived wines, and Volnay, giving more charming wines sometimes likened to a cross between Vosne Romanée and Chambolle Musigny. More recently we have sought red wines from its most southern appellations in Maranges and Santenay, which, like Marsannay in the Côte de Nuits, are definitely worth seeking out.
THE 2024 VINTAGE
The Côte de Beaune faced similar challenges to the Côte de Nuits, particularly in the Pinot focused villages of Pommard, Volnay and Savigny, but the seasonal challenges had less impact on overall yield reduction. Chardonnay is a sturdier grape against climatic challenges, and, with over 50% of the Côte planted with this most famous of white grapes, average yields were less impacted. A combination of small crop and fine weather ripening the bunches from mid-August onwards has contributed to making exceptional wines in 2024. They have a vigorous energy in the mould of 2014, but with a charm and polish akin to 2017, although not necessarily as powerful. Stylistically, these wines are as classic as they get and, with their fresh precision, are destined to age superbly.

LOUIS JADOT | BEAUNE
Whilst Louis Jadot does have a well-respected negociant arm, our focus is on the three estates they own or manage, which produce domaine wines of the highest quality: Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot, from vineyards owned by the Jadot family; Domaine Gagey, from vineyards owned by Pierre-Henry and Thierry Gagey, who have been the vision behind Louis Jadot since Pierre-Henry joined the business in the mid1980s; and Domaine Louis Jadot, representing vineyards owned and bought by Louis Jadot since 1985, when the Kopf family bought the business. All three domaines are vinified at their state-of-the-art winery in Beaune under the supervision of Louis Jadot’s brilliant wine maker Frederic Barnier.
Frederic’s story of the 2024 vintage is one we heard many times during our autumn tastings; production of red wines was down by around 70%, with the greatest impact in the Côte de Nuits, whilst white wines fared a little better with a reduction of a mere 30%! With such a great depth of holdings from across their three estates, Louis Jadot was still able to give a superb representation of the 2024 vintage - their first year as fully organic, somewhat a baptism of fire! - with magnificent appellational identity in their characteristic ebullient house style.

DOMAINE ROLLIN PÈRE & FILS |
PERNAND VERGELESSES
Still relatively new to our EP offering, with 2024 being only our third En Primeur vintage with the estate, Domaine Rollin is a fourth generation domaine with 14 hectares of vines within the Côte de Beaune. Founded by Raymond Rollin, a vineyard worker in the village of Pernand Vergelesses who slowly accumulated enough vines for his son Maurice to set up his own domaine and bottle under the family name in 1955. Today, the estate is assiduously managed by Maurice’s grandson Simon.
Whilst they are not accredited as organic, the vineyards are managed respecting both the soil and the flora and fauna surrounding their vines. The white wines are vinified after a very slow pressing in barrel, a small proportion of which are new. During the élevage they all receive gentle lees stirring each week and bottling takes place after 12 months in barrel. The policy for the red wines is to destalk 100%, followed by a delicate extraction, preferring the process of délestage (splashing rather than pumping over or down), and a barrel ageing process of 10–15 months, vintage dependent, to preserve the aromatics and finesse of the Pinot Noir. Although Simon’s yields were down in 2024, he explained that his team were brilliant at coping with the rain and encouraged aeration of the vines throughout the growing season. The end of August brought a heatwave which led to good ripening and maturation, and we are delighted with the quality of the wine we tasted.
Pernand Vergelesses Blanc Les Cloux
£171.00 per 6 bottles IB
Sitting behind the hill of Corton, these vines are positioned within a south-facing, sheltered combe which offers protection and warmth from northerly winds, ideal for managing temperature fluctuations. The vineyard’s warmer location produces wines with beautiful ripe-fruit character, zippy lime and peach with hints of mango and melon are followed by an open silky mouthfeel, with a moreish nutty texture. The perfect vintage for this wine. Drink 2026 - 2032.
DOMAINE RAPET | PERNAND VERGELESSES
Domaine Rapet, founded in 1765, boasts 20 hectares of some of the finest vineyards in the northern end of the Côte de Beaune. They have 21 different cuvées from five different villages around the town of Beaune, including an enviable two-hectare parcel of Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru. Vincent Rapet assumed responsibility for the domaine in 1985 at just 21 and, much to his delight, has been joined by his son Robin from the 2022 vintage. Robin continues the careful and thoughtful winemaking philosophy of his father, not fully organic, but considerate, environmentally following respectful practices. The super quality of fruit in the vineyard underpins the success of this fine estate’s wines. The domaine’s style is not one of exuberance, but rather composure and intensity.
In Robin’s view, the smaller yields in 2024 were not only due to the overall climatic challenges, but he also felt that, arguably the vines were tired after the two stronger crops of 2022 and 2023, and the smaller harvest this year was simply a natural adjustment. However, he also says the smaller crop had its benefit, it meant after a cool July the two-week mini heatwave in August allowed sufficient sunshine to fully ripen the bunches that were on the vines. A later harvest date of 28th September increased the fruits “hang time” contributing to wines with a fine flavour profile.
Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru En Caradeux
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB
This impressive Premier Cru faces the hillside of Corton Charlemagne. The cool, east-facing white marl slope makes it an ideal site for growing exceptionally pure Chardonnay. Due to the very small crop, Rapet were forced to use 100% barrel fermentation and élevage and no cement eggs this year. Fresh lemon sorbet scent, with hints of nutmeg and almond. The cooler nature of the vintage allows the wines florality and brightness to shine through. Its persistent finish highlights its Premier Cru status. Drink 2027 - 2032 .
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru
£675.00 per 6 bottles IB
Vincent and Robin categorise the vines for this fine cuvée into three groups: the younger vines under 30 years which give 30% of the cuvée, the next 30% from 30-year-old vines, and the final 40% from vines aged between 40- 60 years, all from the Pernand Vergelesses sector of the hillside. 30% new oak and 12 months in barrel (apart from a tiny proportion of 125 litres in glass globe) followed by 6 months in stainless steel, precede bottling. A deliciously creamy wine, with a degree of Corton exuberance, clotted cream, roasted hazelnut and ripe yellow stone fruits. An enticing volume, the glycerol rich sensation avoids any form of excess, thanks a lift of lime peel freshness at the end. Drink 2027 - 2038.
DOMAINE CHANDON DE BRIAILLES |
SAVIGNY LÈS BEAUNE
Built between 1690 and 1705 by André Le Nôtre, the architect and landscape designer who renovated the gardens of Château de Versailles at the behest of Louis XIV, the Château at the heart of this domaine is of historic importance and is almost certainly one of the prettiest estates in the whole of Burgundy. Owned by the Chandon de Briailles family since 1834, it is now run by the fourth generation, with Claude de Nicolay at the helm with her brother Francois. Steered by Claude’s mother, the family have been leaders in organic farming practices from the early 1990s. They further deepened their commitment by adopting biodynamic viticultural methods in 2005. Vineyard work is now undertaken by a dedicated team, who ensure the estate’s five horses only ever spend a maximum of four hours in the vines per day. Numerous infusions, containing ingredients such as horsetail, nettles and orange oil are also regularly applied to the estate’s vines in accordance with the biodynamic calendar.
2024 is the smallest harvest on record at the Domaine for Pinot Noir, yielding a minute 7 hl/ha. It was therefore necessary to adapt and adjust accordingly. There sadly is no Premier Cru Les Vergelesses or Fournaux this year. The three Grands Crus red vineyards, Bressandes, Marechaudes and Clos du Roy, were picked and vinified together to make a single cuvée offered as Le Corton Le Trilogie Royale. Claude and her team maintained their faith in 100% whole cluster vinification and minimal use of new oak and have been delighted to see the wines take on an increased textural density during the barrel aging process this year. Having initially thought they might bottle prior to Christmas, it has been a joy to see the wines unfold in cask. As a result, they have decided to defer and will now bottle as normal in spring 2026 allowing the wines to benefit from an 18 month elevage process. These wines are as stylish as they come and a beautiful example of the heights that could be achieved in the 2024 vintage.
Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières
£345.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
The domaine own a sizeable 2.6-hectare plot in this Premier Cru, which is named after the slabs, or ‘laves’, of clay that make up its soils, and some of their vines date back as far as 1956. The combination of clay soils and old-vine fruit makes for a particularly exciting cuvée. Aromas of fresh cherry and raspberry and a dash of clove. Bright and energetic, with fresh crunchy cranberry fruit characters, a very precise Pinot mid-palate and a rewarding creaminess on the finish.
Drink 2027 - 2042.
Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses
£425.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
This 4-hectare plot of 50-year-old vines is the family’s pride and joy and plays an ambassadorial role for the commune of Pernand Vergelesses, much as the hill of Corton does for its namesake appellation. Normally this prized vineyard boasts 40 casks, with its own location in the cellar, not so this vintage: just 7 casks represent the total production of the appellation. The scent of fresh strawberry and cream gives an initial impression of confidence and flamboyance. The palate however is tighter, with bitter cherry fruit flavours, held together like a coiled spring waiting to be released. Tremendous energetic clarity, with a long defined mineral finish. With age this will be sensational. Drink 2029 - 2040.
Corton Rouge Trilogie Royale Grand Cru
£625.00 per 3 bottles IB | Very Limited
Hopefully this blend of the Domaine's three great Grand Crus, Bressandes, Marechaudes and Clos du Roi is a one-off, as it will mean the domaine will never have to experience such a small harvest again. Selfishly we would love to see it again, as it is glorious and absolutely works! It immediately catches the eye with its brilliant shining crimson red colour, and an exuberant scent of fresh wild alpine strawberries, with a tinge of mocha. Ripe and juicy with the Marechaudes flamboyance keen to make its presence felt, prior to the structure and grip of tannic depth so true of the Clos du Roi. Layered and nuanced with all the complexities of a great Grand Cru. Most definitely a wine to seek out this vintage. Drink 2029 - 2050.
DOMAINE PAVELOT | SAVIGNY LÈS BEAUNE
This is the second vintage that we have offered the wines of Domaine Jean Marc and Hugues Pavelot after discovering them at the Grands Jours de Bourgogne tastings in March 2024. The Pavelot family, with their 13 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, have been vignerons for many generations, but Hugues Pavelot represents only the third generation selling the wines under the family name. Prior to the Second World War, all their fruit was sold to negociants in Beaune. In recent years, Hugues has taken the estate into organic viticulture and the domaine boasts some of the oldest vineyards in Savigny Lès Beaune, with their Dominode and Gravains parcels planted over 80 years ago. They eschew excessive use of new oak, preferring all the natural elements to shine through in their wines, offering a strong communal identity.
2024 was the first vintage that the Domaine practised organic viticulture, which was perhaps not the most fortuitous timing! Despite this Hugues has created a stunning range of wines with amazing purity and impressive yields, an average of 25hl/ha. He timed his harvest perfectly on 10 September when the grapes reached ideal maturity and vinified immediately on arrival to the winery in natural cellar temperatures. He prefers to rack wines after 12 months in cask to preserve and capture the fruit content.
Savigny lès Beaune
£120.00 per 6 bottles IB
The family own a substantial 5 hectares of vines coming from 15 different plots in almost every sector of the appellation, running from northwest of the village down to the boundary of Chorey Lès Beaune, with vines averaging 50 years of age. A bright and energetic expression of pure Pinot Noir. Cherry, red plum and gentle sweet spice create a tightly knitted texture with delicious, sweet fruit. No new oak this year but the old wood has created a lovely round feel. Drink 2027 - 2034.
Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru Aux Gravains
£195.00 per 6 bottles IB
A centrally located Premier Cru on the lower slopes, characterised by its stony soils, which benefits from an excellent southerly exposure. A beautiful nose of cassis and redcurrant which leads onto red cherry on the palate. Delightful richness and volume on the mid-palate with a real core of powerful finesse. The fruit is balanced by the oak which holds its own and fine tannins create a plush and long finish. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB
Taking its name from the Domio family, who were large landowners in the 16th century, the sandy clay soil and north easterly aspect of the vineyard, along with the Domaine’s 80-year-old vines, make this an ever more appealing Premier Cru. Very luscious red fruit on the fore but with a serious structure and a dark fruit edge with a bitter nut flavour. Driving freshness and hints of leather. Will develop perfectly with a few years in bottle. Drink 2028 - 2038.
DOMAINE TOLLOT-BEAUT | CHOREY LÈS BEAUNE
Tollot-Beaut own 24 hectares of vineyards in the communes of Chorey lès Beaune, Savigny lès Beaune, Aloxe Corton and Beaune. They were one of the first estates in the Côte d’Or to bottle their own wines in the 1930s and market them under their Domaine label. Today, the estate is run by Nathalie Tollot and her two cousins Olivier and winemaker Jean-Paul Tollot who is married to Anne Gros of Vosne-Romanée fame. Jean-Paul wants his wines to be pleasurable and approachable, without losing any appellational identity. This youthful charm can be misleading, as history shows the estate’s wines also have an outstanding propensity to age.
Jean-Paul and his team follow sensitive practices in the vineyard, but they are not classified as organic. In 2024 for their vineyards in the Côte de Beaune he felt this gave his team greater flexibility to protect the vines from any potential disease risk. One of their key decisions in the months of May, June and July was to manage the canopy to encourage air flow between the rows. This was so important to help protect against the mild and humid summer conditions, which always put vines at disease risk. They destalked all the fruit on arrival at the winery at harvest time and worked on minimal extraction during the vinification process to encourage the natural qualities of Pinot Noir to shine through.
Bourgogne Blanc Côte d'Or
£135.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
A lovely style of Chardonnay from a parcel of vines planted in the Tollots’ home village of Chorey lès Beaune. Pale straw colour, a floral nose with hints of lemon sherbet and fresh pineapple on the palate. Charming and easy. Drink 2026 - 2030.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru
£350.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The east facing slopes of the Tollot parcel of Corton Charlemagne contribute to huge energy and lively freshness of this Grand Cru. A medley of melon and kiwi on the nose, it combines the natural fullness and traditional volume one seeks in Corton, but with mouth-watering racy edge. Sadly, they only made 1,000 bottles of this exquisite cuvée and it is definitely worth seeking out. Drink 2027 - 2040.
Chorey lès Beaune La Pièce du Chapitre
£156.00 per 6 bottles IB
This is a monopole vineyard owned by the Tollot family in the north of the appellation delivering pure Pinot fruit at its very best. Such a lovely approachable style, full of red berry fruits, soft and sensual, with gentle tannins. Easy on the finish, perfect early drinking Pinot.
Drink 2026 - 2036.
Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB
A very popular Premier Cru, thanks to its southerly exposure, contributing to a less rustic and more charming Savigny than some of its neighbours. So full of energy, with a racy crisp freshness giving a feeling of tension. The wine builds on the palate, with its sweet raspberry tayberry flavours. Lots of finesse and charm here.
Drink 2027 - 2040.
Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru Champ Chevrey
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
A 1.5-hectare monopole planted in 1954 sitting within Aux Fournaux and the other side of the road to Lavières, with deeper and richer soils than its neighbour. A fascinating contrast to its Premier Cru neighbour with its darker berry fruit personality. With hints of cocoa powder, cinnamon and nutmeg, this has lots of exuberance and confidence.
Drink 2026 - 2038.
Aloxe Corton 1er Cru Les Vercots
£295.00 per 6 bottles IB
At the domaine they consider this wine as coming from two relatively young parcels of vines, but today they are over 20 years old! Interestingly the vineyard was planted with Pinot Très Fin sometimes known as the Dijon clone. It thrives in cooler years, producing very small berries, with intense flavours and has lived up to expectations in 2024. It was particularly selected for this fine Premier Cru facing southwest towards Pernand Vergelesses and Savigny lès Beaune, as it is recognised as being a cooler spot. Sweet dark berry flavours, almost Black Forest gateau-like, superbly concentrated and lingers beautifully on the finish. Drink 2028 - 2040.
Beaune 1er Cru Les Grèves
£315.00 per 6 bottles IB
Protected from the west wind by the Montagne de Beaune, this is an exceptional Premier Cru which takes its name from the crumbly gravel soil that makes up the vineyard. When tasting from cask it had none of its traditional shyness, it quite simply leapt out of the glass. Layers of dark autumnal fruits, sweet, juicy and ripe with hints of blackberry crumble and clove. A delicious cuvée in 2024.
Drink 2028 - 2045.
Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi
£315.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
From the lower slopes of the hillside of Beaune, this is typically more forward and open than the Grèves, although on this occasion it seemed a little behind in its development. Red cherry fruit, with an earthy gravelly texture, the oak is a touch more prominent than normal at this stage, but there is fantastic substance of fruit underneath, which will evolve and show off its true class when in bottle.
Drink 2028 - 2045.
Corton Bressandes Grand Cru
£520.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
History seems to show this Grand Cru takes its name from three spinsters who arrived from Bresse and took ownership of vineyard many centuries ago. The warm location gives rise to a wine that is rich in style. This is a delicious cuvée from these aged vines planted in the 1950s. It perfectly balances the wealth of intense dark fruit, with a subtle tannic grip and glorious acid lift of freshness on the tail. Superb. Drink 2028 - 2050.
Corton Grand Cru
£260.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The combination of deep, dark red soils and the south facing slopes always makes for a more powerful style of Grand Cru from this famous hill side. Morello cherry and blueberry on the nose. There is a lovely sweet edge to this wine, rich in its texture, with an attitude of tannic depth and a moreish finish of mocha and mixed spices.
Drink 2028 - 2045.
DOMAINE DE BELLENE | BEAUNE
Nicolas Potel established his négociant business in 1997, a year after the death of his father and the sale of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or, which Gérard Potel had long managed. Initially bottling under his own name, from the 2008 vintage onwards the estate has been known as Domaine de Bellene. Since the 2007 vintage, the domaine has operated from superb historic cellars on the Dijon road out of Beaune. He held dear the historic négociant values, finding and blending the best cuvées to represent the individuality of an appellation. His verbal contracts with growers throughout the Côte d’Or allowed him to maintain positions in the most prized vineyards.
2025 has been a devastating time for the Potel family, with the tragic death of the legend, Nicolas Potel at the end of June. Such a charismatic man and an excellent winemaker, many of the team at Goedhuis Waddesdon were lucky to have had a wonderful relationship with him, built over 25 years of close collaboration. He is survived by his three children Alphonse, Antonia and Emilien, who have taken over the helm in an extremely impressive manner.
This period of transition sees a much smaller range of only Domaine wines and includes a very special Vosne-Romanée bottling, Hommage à Nicolas Potel. We enjoyed a dinner with Alphonse and Antonia in November and were bowled over by their resilience and professionalism. Antonia will be working on the winemaking side with Alphonse concentrating on running the business. We look forward to working with them in the years to come. The 2024 vintage is the last to be made by Nicolas, so is extremely special.
Savigny lès Beaune 1er Cru
Hommage à Jean Ferté
£195.00 per 6 bottles IB
Nicolas named this cuvée after his mother's uncle who was the driving force behind the family purchase of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or. A lovely blend of two small Premiers Crus, Haut Jarrons and Peuillets, from 60-year-old vines. The wine has aromas of black liquorice and punnets of raspberries with light vanilla sweetness. Broad and structured, it has a mineral freshness with firm tannins and a dark plum character. Very enjoyable. Drink 2030 - 2042.
Volnay Les Grands Poisots
£195.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
This is made from a single 0.4ha plot on the Pommard side of the appellation, planted in 1985. A special cuvée, as Nicolas Potel grew up in Volnay and it is the only vineyard they own there. No new oak used here, preferring young barrels of 1, 2 and 3 years to add texture but avoid any overt oakiness. Incredibly well integrated, this has a dark fruit core with a fine-boned tension and an edge of moreish sweet spice. Very silky tannins.
Drink 2029 - 2040.
Beaune 1er Cru Vielles Vignes
Hommage à Françoise Potel
£250.00 per 6 bottles IB
Made in honour of Nicolas’s mother, this is a blend of six Premiers Crus: Teurons, Pertuisots, Montée Rouge, Bressandes, Clos du Roi and Reversées. A flagship cuvée for the Domaine, representing the very best of what Beaune Premier Cru can offer, the yields were generous for the vintage at 30hl/ha and were the first vineyards to be picked. Very pretty nose with ripe red fruit and a fresh, floral note. A touch more savoury on the palate, with layers of redcurrant, raspberry and red cherry. Charming, mineral tannins and an impressively long finish. This will age well. Drink 2027 - 2040.
Vosne Romanée Hommage à Nicolas Potel
£410.00 per 3 bottles IB
An exceptional wine dedicated to Nicolas, from two brilliant vineyards; Les Suchots Premier Cru and Les Quartiers de Nuits. The Quartiers de Nuits vines were planted in 1927, and lie just under Echezeaux and next to Clos de Vougeot, amazing positioning for a village parcel! Punching well above its classification, this is a luminous and textural Vosne. Classic Suchots structure with plenty of muscle and breadth, intense and structured from the old vines with beautiful glossy tannins. Drink 2030 - 2050.
BENJAMIN LEROUX | BEAUNE
Ben Leroux created his own label in 2007, which includes domaine wines from a total of 8 hectares of vines and negociant wines, with grapes purchased from approximately 20 hectares across the Côte d’Or. His background is exemplary: following internships at some of the greatest estates around the world, he was responsible for Pommard’s foremost estate, Comte Armand, for 15 years, making a roll call of exceptional vintages. For the negociant wines, his policy is to buy grapes rather than juice or wine. He insists on having a hand in the vineyards from which he buys, so that the fruit meets his exacting standards.
Benjamin told us that 2024 was a challenging vintage, but one where it was possible to make very good wines. His Chardonnay flowering was good but his Pinot Noir, which flowers later, struggled more when the conditions weren’t so favourable, especially in parts of the Côte de Nuits. Yields for his Côte de Beaune reds are around half a normal crop, with the Côte de Nuits a paltry 5-6hl/ha. There’s a long list of wines he didn’t make this year, including Grands Crus and Premiers Crus, and our range is quite different as we have been offered wines that we haven’t before. There were no issues with maturity or ripeness of the fruit and careful sorting has ensured brilliant quality. He has used no new oak in 2024 at all, preferring to tread carefully with lots of one- and two-year-old barrels.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru
£990.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
[Not tasted] Benjamin Leroux’s Corton Charlemagne is from the higher section of the hill of Corton in the Côte de Beaune. Benjamin uses low-intervention principles and minimal new oak in the cellar to achieve the extraordinary purity of fruit and terroir signature for which this wine is renowned for. Typically rich, open and muscular. Drink 2029 - 2046.
Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
£475.00 per single bottle IB | On Allocation
[Not tasted] Smaller and more-intense crops can give the resulting fruit a greater depth and firmness, which can be a positive trait in the final wine. In the case of the Benjamin Leroux’s 202s this manifests as a tautness and power that enhances the usual heady intensity. His Bâtard is always an impressive, well-structured wine with great depth.
Drink 2030 - 2048.
Gevrey Chambertin
£336.00 per 6 bottles IB
Saline and dense, this Gevrey has serious merit this year as 8% is from Charmes Chambertin and Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Champeaux. Very dark fruit dominates the palate with a warming toasty nature from the wood, which add to the complexity but does not dominate. A very fresh core which reflects Benjamin’s preference for the more northerly vineyards in the appellation. Drink 2028 - 2038.
Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous le Bois
£375.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
The La Pièce Sous le Bois Blagny is from the same vineyard as Benjamin Leroux’s Meursault. Blagny is not particularly well known when speaking about Burgundy, with only 5.2 hectares of Pinot Noir planted here. One of Benjamin’s passion projects, this has a lovely broad and open structure that gives immediate pleasure. Wild fruits of the forest with suede-like tannins that are rich, firm and a ripe, with a plummy finish and an enchanting smoky tone. Drink 2028 - 2038.
Beaune 1er Cru Cent Vignes
£375.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
[Not tasted] This 0.5 hectare parcel was purchased by Ben in 2021, and he is keenly following its potential. A pure expression of red-fruited and approachable Pinot Noir with floral notes, a solid structure and gentle spice. Drink 2028 - 2040.
Vosne Romanée
£228.00 per 3 bottles IB
Composed of fruit sourced from five different locations across the village, this cuvée provides a lovely introduction to the Vosne style. First impressions are long, dark and silky with a light, white pepper and a mouth-watering sour cherry finish. Firm grippy tannins add to a long and textural finish. Drink 2028 - 2038.
Volnay 1er Cru Les Mitans
£456.00 per 6 bottles IB
The name Mitans derives from the old French word for middle or centre, an apt moniker for this Premier Cru vineyard, which lies both mid-slope and in the middle of Volnay. Always with a bright red fruit character, this 2024 gives so much ripe fruit and freshness with a brilliant lightness of touch from the excellent winemaking. So easy to drink, this is approachable now and could be enjoyed young. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Cave des Ducs
£510.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
[Not tasted] Benjamin owns the monopole for this 0.5-hectare parcel on the outskirts of the village, where the hill starts to ascend. This location means the vineyard gets a bit less sunlight in the morning and evening. The soil’s high limestone content imparts a distinctive texture, with alabaster-like tannins that give the wine a sleek, sophisticated, engaging character. Drink 2029 - 2038.
Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots
£337.00 per 3 bottles IB
Located on the very northern edge of Nuits St Georges, and neighbouring Vosne Romanée’s Malconsorts, Aux Boudots enjoys well-drained soils with plenty of stones and is a prized source of high-class fruit. Benjamin made 7 barrels this year, all picked by hand and no whole bunch as he was worried about the ripeness of the stems. Stunning notes of wild herbs and fresh mint on the nose with a cherry and an intriguing coconut note. Pure and sweet cherry and black plum fruit with an energetic line of mineral-driven acidity and subtle tannins. Drink 2027 - 2040.
Volnay 1er Cru En Caillerets
£352.00 per 3 bottles IB | Limited
[Not tasted] This parcel lies just above the iconic Clos des 60 Ouvrées. Caillerets is famous for producing some of Volnay’s most expressive and fragrant wines, with delightful notes of violet and rose. The vineyard includes some vines up to 70 years old, and Ben ferments with as much whole-bunch as possible, depending on the year. The ripeness of the vintage will add richness, while the terroir always delivers balance and harmony.
Drink 2029 - 2037.
Echezeaux Grand Cru
£825.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The fruit for this Grand Cru is all sourced from the En Orveaux section of the Echezeaux vineyard, but from a larger area than previously as the grower did not want to make wine from his own grapes. Benjamin was not afraid to take these grapes as he had so much confidence in the vintage. The site has only has very sparse topsoil above the limestone bedrock and sits in a naturally cooler spot. The 2024 nose is stunning with concentrated floral and ripe berry notes that are full of energy. Juicy cherry, black plum and sweet spices dance on the palate with an edge of blood orange and a driving mineral core that powers all the way through to the lingering finish. Drink 2030 - 2050.
DOMAINE COMTE ARMAND | POMMARD
This 5.23-hectare monopole has been in the Comte Armand family since 1828 and, as Pommard’s most celebrated vineyard, it arguably just missed out on Grand Cru status. In the extremely capable hands of Paul Zanetti, this domaine is now fully biodynamic in its vineyard management and winemaking practices. Over the past 25 years the family have carefully expanded their vineyard holdings in the locality. Today, their stable of wines offers a wonderful representation of the Côte de Beaune, including vineyards in Volnay and the much-overlooked village of Auxey Duresses which, thanks in part to Paul’s efforts, is amongst others rapidly gaining credibility as a rising star in the southern Côte d’Or.
Paul had used 20% whole bunch in 2023 but in 2024 he decided to use none at all as some of the stalks and pips were not fully mature. The flowering in April was terribly affected by the rain and the grapes also suffered from millerandage due to the wind and cold weather. Paul and his team were very strict with the fruit on the sorting table, keeping only the best grapes and then using cold maceration and very gentle punching down for a light extraction and to retain the delicate aromatics. He was happy to disclose that despite the poor weather the ripeness and maturity reached good levels, and he was happy with his resulting wines.
Bourgogne Aligoté
£110.00 per 6 bottles IB
This cuvée brings together fruit from three individual plots, two in Volnay and the third in Meursault. The Volnay portion of the blend is from relatively young vines, which bring vivacity and freshness, whilst the Meursault fruit is from 90-year-old vines, lending surprising depth. This has a bright and fresh menthol aroma. With fresh green apple and pear flavours and delightful mineral lift, this is an instant delight.
Drink 2026 - 2029.
Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc Les Millottes
£130.00 per 6 bottles IB
Paul has bought in the fruit from this excellent parcel since 2023. It is a small parcel with some Chardonnay Musqué, a special Chardonnay clone, which adds a beautiful floral nose and citrus aromas to the wine. Vinified in barrel but with no new oak, this wine is bright and zesty. Bursting with lemon, line and sherbet flavours and a lovely silky, round mouthfeel. Drink 2026 - 2035.
Volnay
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB
The fruit for this cuvée comes from two different vineyards within Volnay: Les Grands Champs, providing finesse and elegance, and Les Famines, giving body and power. A brooding nose packed full of dark plum and cherry with a rosemary and thyme edge. This has some seriously broad shoulders and weight with a wonderful round palate. The limestone soils provide a steely minerality at the core of the wine which are complemented by dark and present tannins. One to keep. Drink 2028 - 2038.
Auxey Duresses 1er Cru
£275.00 per 6 bottles IB
The domaine owns three very small parcels within this Premier Cru: Les Bretarins, Les Bas des Duresses and Climat du Val. As such, the wines from these three sites are blended together as a single cuvée to give a complete, rounded expression of Auxey Premier Cru. This has a firm backbone and broad body with plenty of sweet cherry, cassis juiciness, and pleasingly ripe tannins. Powerful fresh acidity gives a lovely lift, and the sweet cherry flavour persists on the finish.
Drink 2028 - 2038.
Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets
£465.00 per 6 bottles IB
Situated in the middle of a slope, this Premier Cru lies at the Pommard end of the village and benefits from the iron-rich soils of its neighbour. This is a warm site with well-draining soils, so it fared well in 2024 and Paul had relatively good yields of 20hl/ha. On the nose there is fresh violet and red cherry which unfurls on the palate into deep baked plum with a line of liquorice and toasted nuts. Perfectly poised and bursting with energy, this wine is brimming with personality and present but fine tannins. Drink 2028 - 2042.
Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Épeneaux
£625.00 per 6 bottles IB
A monopole in the family since 1826, the Clos is divided into four different sections based on location and age of the vines, with the oldest quadrant being a 1.5-hectare parcel of 100-year-old pieds. Always a favourite to taste, this is a Premier Cru of Grand Cru quality. Reduced by half of the normal production due to the wet weather, 2024 has produced a super concentrated and moreish cuvée. Dark cherry, blood orange and pomegranate leap out of the glass with bramble and a herbaceous tinge on first taste. Pure, fresh fruit on the mid-palate with white pepper and dried herb notes. The finish and tannins are dark and brooding, a wine that will reveal itself with time. Drink 2030 - 2055.
DOMAINE ANNE-FRANÇOISE GROS | POMMARD
Following their marriage in 1998, François Parent and Anne-Françoise Gros combined their family estates in Pommard and Vosne Romanée to create this superb 11-domaine under the A F Gros label. The domaine comprises some of the finest terroirs in the Côte d’Or, benefitting further in 2022 when Anne-Françoise’s aunt in Vosne Romanée passed on her personal vineyards to her nephews and nieces. A reorganisation resulted amongst the different branches of Gros family and their holdings in the Côte de Nuits. Anne- Françoise was the lucky beneficiary of an additional half hectare of Echezeaux and a parcel of Clos de Vougeot. François and Anne-Françoise have now stepped aside to let their children run the estate. Caroline looks after the commercial side and Mathias the vineyards and winemaking. Attentive to the environment, Mathias follows biodynamic practices although prefers to use the term sustainable and respectful viticulture. This is an estate which is carefully managed at the highest level both in the vineyards and cellars.
Visiting the domaine’s historical barrel aging cellars in Beaune is a sight unlike any other in the Côte d’Or. Their desire for terroir expression and minimal intervention, means Mathias is leading the way in moving away from 100% traditional barrel elevage. Their cellar today consists of 50% 400 litre ceramic egg-shaped vessels and 50% barrels of which 30% are new. He explains that the ceramic eggs are totally neutral, adding no additional flavour profile and minimal oxygenation, with the added benefit of not only respecting the terroir, but allowing him to reduce the use of sulphur in the maturation process. 2024 is their first vintage of 50:50 and for the Grands Crus they did 70% whole bunch fermentation and 50% for all the other cuvées. This outstanding range shows a perfect harmony between respect for tradition and a forward-thinking outlook, taking it to a new level.
Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Blanc
£135.00 per 6 bottles IB
[Not tasted.] A 2-hectare plot to the west of Nuits St Georges. The combination of a higher altitude site with limestone rich soils produce a bright mineral style, with racy freshness. Drink in its youth.
Drink 2026 - 2030.
Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge
£135.00 per 6 bottles IB
Sadly after 2025 this fine cuvée from just above the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits will no longer exist, so this 2024 comes with an extra strong recommendation from us. Make the most of it whilst it lasts! One of the few wines from the AF Gros stable to be 100% destemmed this vintage, it has bright fresh energy about it, with a linear mineral tension. Lots of fresh cherry and pomegranate, presenting youthful vivacious Pinot Noir at its best. Drink 2027 - 2036.
Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes
£295.00 per 6 bottles IB
Les Boucherottes is on the southern boundary of Beaune just above Pommard’s Epenots vineyards. This side of the appellation tends to produce poised, elegant wines rather than the firmer, more muscular style of the northern side of the commune. An aromatic expression of damson fool and grenadine. A graceful floral purity, the tannins are slim and graceful, and the finish is deliciously perfumed. A real charmer. Drink 2027 - 2038.
Chambolle Musigny
£445.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
The domaine has five parcels across the village and even blended together to make a single cuvée the volumes are sadly exceptionally small this vintage. A classical Chambolle, with a delicious volume of sweet red cherry fruits. This is plush and generous, and almost immediately ready to give instant appeal. Drink 2027 - 2039.
Vosne Romanée Aux Réas
£450.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
This is an excellent parcel in Vosne Romanée situated in the vineyards that flow into Nuits St Georges at the southern end of the village. Mathias describes this as always producing a serious styled wine for the appellation. The 50% whole bunch sings on the nose with a wonderful medley of wild alpine fruits. A tightly controlled mid-palate with excellent intensity, the tannins whilst velvet-like in texture give some firm body and contribute with the wine’s crisp freshness to its persistence and complexity. Drink 2027 - 2042.
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru
£860.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
A lovely addition to the portfolio, amounting to half a hectare from two prime parcels named La Garenne and Musigny. It contests to be one of the very best Clos Vougeots this vintage. Perfectly pitched between a tight powerful intensity and spiced rich volume. A wine with muscle and grip, characterised by its confident granular tannic structure, good substance and depth with a great aging potential. Drink 2029 - 2055.
Echezeaux Grand Cru
£950.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The Gros parcel of Echezeaux is one of the finest in the appellation, in a plot called Les Loachauses on the Vosne-Romanée side of the appellation. Succulent and juicy with flavours of tayberry, syrup of grenadine and fresh wild strawberry. A more ethereal style than the Clos Vougeot, harmonious and graceful, the tannins are gentle in their touch. The finish is soothing, and velvety. This is all about grace and subtle class. Drink 2028 - 2057.
Richebourg Grand Cru
£2,100.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
As good as it gets for this majestic Grand Cru. The Gros vines are situated on the northern sector of the vineyard, lying below Cros Parantoux. 70% whole bunch fruit is confidently expressed with its spicy scent of cinnamon, wild strawberry characters and blueberry. A very serious wine, with a mighty intensity, the central core of tannic depth is encased by an impressive layer of weighted fruit. Extremely concentrated, it builds and builds in palate. Most definitely a wine for the future. Drink 2030 - 2058.
DOMAINE JEAN-PHILIPPE FICHET | MEURSAULT
As a young 20-year-old taking over the family’s sharecropping arrangements in Meursault back in the early 1980s, Jean-Philippe was the youngest landowner in the appellation. Roll on 40 years, and he is now very much the village’s senior statesman. No longer looking to his elders for advice, he is the one the next generation turn to: no grower has a better understanding of the commune’s soil and terroir. He respects the vine above all; stylistically, he prefers earlier picking dates to deliver a stunning mineral freshness to his wines. In recent years he has moved to using less new oak and vinifying and ageing his wines in larger cask rather than the traditional 228 litre cask. His primary goal is for total expression of fruit and terroir, and it is one he consistently achieves.
His years of experience proved essential in the tough 2024 vintage, Jean-Philippe and his team worked tirelessly in the wet weather, resulting in minimal loss of grapes. He had to stay vigilant and used treatments in the vineyard pre-emptively to avoid excessive use of sprays. The quality of his fruit meant that he could start picking later than most in Meursault, resulting in wines that have great ripeness and maturity. What he has managed to achieve with this vintage is incredibly impressive.
Bourgogne Blanc Vieilles Vignes Côte d'Or
Early Release | £135.00 per 6 bottles IB
The dominant force in this old vine cuvée of Bourgogne Blanc comes from the Les Palland vineyard close to Puligny, where the vines are between 45 and 70 years old. The palate is brimming with juicy citrus, orange blossom and hints of kiwi. Bright acidity is wonderfully balanced with careful use of large oak barrels to add texture and creaminess without any overt oakiness. Drink 2026 - 2030.
Monthelie Blanc
Early Release | £150.00 per 6 bottles IB
The location of these vines on the slopes of Monthelie is warm, with a fine catchment of sunlight. This is so approachable: very light notes of truffle and almond on the nose with a touch of reduction and plenty of fresh citrus. Mouthwatering ripe apricot and a sweet orange flavour linger on the finish. Drink 2026 - 2030.
Meursault
Early Release | £280.00 per 6 bottles IB
A slightly different blend for this brilliant Meursault in 2024, now from four plots instead of five, the Les Criots grapes have been separated to make their own cuvee. The four plots are in different locations, aspects, and soil types across the appellation. There is a beautiful structure in this wine, with great mineral, stony structure against surprising depth. This has a direct and serious core but is softened by creaminess on the finish. Beautiful. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Meursault Meix sous le Château
Early Release | £295.00 per 6 bottles IB
A very central lieu-dit close to the village below the town hall. West facing and shaded in the morning, it makes the most of the afternoon sun and has brilliant ripeness. Tonnes of zest and energy here with some biting freshness and delicious ripe stone fruit flavours. Hints of jasmine and rose add elegance and complexity. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Meursault Les Criots
Early Release | £310.00 per 6 bottles IB
This is the first vintage of this cuvée. Jean-Philippe has just 0.11 hectares, previously incorporated into his Meursault village bottling. It has been supplemented by additional vines from his sister, bringing the total production to ten barrels. The site is particularly interesting due to its high mineral content, which is clearly reflected in the wine, with aromas of rose petal, a bright lime zest on the palate and a firm, stony profile with a strong sense of place. Drink 2026 – 2035.
Meursault Les Gruyaches
Early Release | £350.00 per 6 bottles IB
From the oldest vineyards on the estate, the vines are 97 years old, having been planted back in 1928 by Jean-Philippe’s grandfather. They continue to provide plentiful fruit with a very profound fruit quality, as one would expect from such an aged vineyard. The wine has a quiet and slow power that builds in the glass. Layers of smoke and toast with greengage and white peach are in perfect harmony. This has such charm and elegance. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Meursault Les Chevalières
Early Release | £380.00 per 6 bottles IB
Chevalières is one of the appellation’s finest lieux dit, deriving its name from being the location where travellers would change horses as they continued their journeys through the region towards Auxey-Duresses. Mineral and fine in this cooler vintage, but still with plenty of ripe white fruit and a citrus core. There is a faint herbal note which lingers on the palate as well as a rich creaminess. Drink 2028 - 2038.
Meursault Le Tesson
Early Release | £395.00 per 6 bottles IB
Talk to the senior growers in the village, and they are all in agreement: this is Meursault’s Premier Cru that never was. It is only due to a quirk of history and appellational bureaucracy that it isn’t classified as one. This wine always has an outstanding balance of citrus and creaminess. Bursting with a core of pineapple, it is saline and super fresh. Refined and regal, this is Jean-Philippe’s smallest cuvée, always punching above its weight and should be snapped up whenever possible.
Drink 2027 - 2036.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts
Early Release | £495.00 per 6 bottles IB
Les Referts is Puligny Montrachet’s last Premier Cru before you arrive in the commune of Meursault. Its clay and marl soils are more akin to its neighbour, and therefore makes a bolder style of Puligny, whilst retaining a purity and citrus zest which is tantalising. So floral and mineral with scents of acacia and a salty breeze. Orange zest and stone fruit characters lend body to the wine, and a strict mineral finish ensures there is no mistaking its provenance. Such a delicious cuvée.
Drink 2028 - 2036.
DOMAINE PATRICK JAVILLIER | MEURSAULT
While this great family estate in Meursault may still be under Patrick’s name, over the last 10 years it has been Patrick’s daughter Marion and son-in-law Pierre-Emmanuel Lamy who have been leading the charge. Patrick’s presence remains; he has his own little area in the cellar, surrounded by cask samples and glasses as he passionately reviews the élevage that Marion oversees for the reds and Pierre the whites. His opinion is always valued and worthwhile, but his pride in their success says it all.
Marion is very clear in her explanation of the 2024 vintage. Whilst she says as a team, they have the mentality of an organic producer, they are not an organic domaine. For their Meursault vineyards she felt this was a great advantage in this vintage, as it allowed them to treat the vines at crucial times to give maximum protection against the risk of mildew, which was so devastating for so many others. The biggest challenge for the estate was their high proportion of old vines, as it was these that struggled the most in 2024. Marion thinks due partly to a degree of fatigue from the higher yielding 2023 crop, and partly the natural stresses of nature in the 2024 growing season. By contrast, the younger vines produced a good amount of fruit, also in fine quality.
Bourgogne Blanc Côte d’Or Cuvée des Forgets
£130.00 per 6 bottles IB
Of Javillier’s two Bourgogne Blancs, this is undoubtedly the most Meursault in style; the vineyards’ clay-rich soils impart an opulence and roundness to the palate. Due to the cooler conditions, the 2024 is a little less flamboyant than in some vintages, but still maintains its vibrant approachability, with flavours of spice, fresh croissant and a finish of zesty tangerine. A very lovely style. Drink 2026 - 2030.
Bourgogne Blanc Côte d’Or Cuvée Oligocène
£145.00 per 6 bottles IB
The unidentical twin of Cuvée des Forgets, Oligocène has zest, energy and minerality thanks to the vineyards being closer to Puligny Montrachet, where a greater limestone content contributes to its vivacity. Aromas of lime and lemon sorbet, the dry citrus core sits perfectly alongside a surprisingly rich, creamy finish. So much more than just a simple Bourgogne Blanc! Drink 2026 - 2030.
Meursault Clos du Cromin
£295.00 per 6 bottles IB
Sitting close to the border of Volnay, Clos du Cromin’s combination of warm, south-east-facing slopes and the clay-dominant soils results in a more flamboyant expression of Meursault. The aromatics are notable from the off, redolent of warm brioche and clotted cream. This a more refined and subtle style of Cromin than some years, flows beautifully across the palate, with a graceful, lingering finish. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Meursault Les Tillets
£295.00 per 6 bottles IB
Seven separate parcels go into this cuvée, all of which are situated on the higher slopes of Meursault. There is a lot of rock at the top of the hill, which gives Les Tillets its signature minerality and distinguishes it from the other Meursault cuvées in Javillier’s repertoire. With satisfying aromatics of pain au raisin, this is a wine with excellent volume. The exuberant creamy richness and vanilla pod notes are held perfectly together by a lift of minerality as the final impression. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Meursault Les Clousots
£340.00 per 6 bottles IB
The playfully named Les Clousots is not a lieu-dit in its own right, but rather a combination of two separate vineyards: Les Clous and Les Crotots. Each vineyard contributes to this classic Meursault, the former bringing depth and intensity and the latter a freshness and vitality. Rewarding scents of honeysuckle, and crème anglaise open a lovely, harmonious wine, with creamy richness and flavours of nutmeg and squeezed pink grapefruit. Marion and Pierre-Emmanuel might not have a Premier Cru, but, with its complexity and power, Les Clousots is as good as any top-level Meursault. Drink 2027 - 2034.
Meursault Cuvée Tête de Murger
£430.00 per 6 bottles IB
Pierre-Emmanuel has a knack for blending different climats, and Tête de Murger is the finest example of his skillset. Made by combining the hilly Les Casse-Têtes with Murger de Monthélie near Volnay, hints of fudge and clotted cream lift out of the glass. The palate has the characteristic volume one expects in the finest Meursault, but with a taut structure from the rocky soils and a natural intensity. Always the cuvée which ages the longest, this will make fine old bones. Drink 2027 - 2037.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru
£545.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The Javillier parcel on this great Grand Cru site showcases the exuberance that has come to be expected from a classic Corton Charlemagne. Vinified in one-year-old barrels, there is a wealth of aromas on the nose: panna cotta, crème brulée and almond. A broad and full wine, this is extremely giving, and the finish of warm toffee and buttered toast make it utterly irresistible. A Grand Cru in every way! Drink 2027 - 2038.
DOMAINE ANTOINE JOBARD | MEURSAULT
When Antoine took over the domaine in 1998, he had big shoes to fill; his father Francois’s reputation for making wines that withstood the time of age was second to none. Fortunately, Antoine has proved himself more than up to the task. His wines haven’t lost any of the domaine’s hallmark for longevity, but now also bear a touch of modernity. The wine’s fruit expression is a little more apparent in their youth whilst maintaining the potential for great mature Chardonnay complexity. His winemaking is traditional; he is keen for his wines to go through a full 12-month ageing process in cask. Before bottling and after the racking process, he allows each cuvée to finish its development, partly in tank to preserve a vitality and freshness, and partly in cask to allow the wine to maintain depth and volume. His attentive nature and commitment to the very highest standards is receiving just rewards, and so it is unsurprising that his wines are now becoming some of the most sought-after Meursault around the world.
Antoine’s cellars were looking much more empty than usual during our autumn tasting visit, displaying the stark difference between the quantity of wine made in 2023 and 2024. Despite the tough vintage, Antoine stuck to his organic practices in the vineyard and did not use any chemical sprays, sacrificing grapes to ensure his meticulous care of the vines and soil.
Bourgogne Blanc
Price TBC
A blend of five different parcels within the commune of Meursault, honeysuckle and lemon leap out of the glass. The wine has a brilliant balance of power and zingy acidity which maintains the freshness. There is a lingering passion fruit posset creaminess on the finish. Absolutely delightful. Drink 2026 - 2030.
Meursault
Price TBC
This cuvée consists of 7 different parcels within the village, including the outstanding En La Barre, which Antoine historically separated out as a lieu-dit. Antoine ages this cuvée in larger 400 litre casks to minimise the interaction with the oak and its impact on the flavour profile. This wine has a lovely broad and ripe stone fruit character with very light aromas of rose and honeysuckle. A rich mid-palate has notes of nuts, sweet pastry and apricot crumble. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Meursault Blagny 1er Cru
Price TBC | On Allocation
From a small combe high up at the edge of Meursault bordering the appellation of Puligny, Antoine feels Blagny’s enclosed position means the fruit ripens a little earlier than his other vineyards, and so is one of the first to be picked. The wine has a fantastic ripe and juicy fruit nature, but the earlier picking policy gives a fine citrus edge and an enticing herbaceous lift to his cuvée. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots
Price TBC | On Allocation
The northeasterly exposition of this fine Premier Cru always makes a wine with a little more reserve than traditional Meursault, and it is one of the longest keepers in the Jobard range. This is a step up in intensity from the Blagny: flavours of white peach jump out of the glass. Roasted nuts dominate on the palate with a sweet peach and clementine finish. Drink 2027 - 2036.
Meursault 1er Cru Charmes
Price TBC | On Allocation
This is a pretty and powerful cuvée: lime, grapefruit and a passion fruit note dominate with a textural mouthfeel and a long saline finish. Antoine’s brilliant oak use is shown perfectly here, with a lightly toasted brioche flavour adding structure and complexity. One to keep.
Drink 2028 - 2036.
Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières
Price TBC | On Allocation
The Jobard plot within this great Premier Cru is instantly recognisable by its famed cabotte which sits in the middle of his vineyards. He prices it at a Grand Cru level as, in his view, this is where it stands in quality over and above the other cuvées in his cellar. This is flinty and exuberant on the nose, with aromas of white peach and juicy gooseberries. A perfect balance of open richness and a steely core of minerality which is shown to perfection in this vintage. Drink 2028 - 2036.
CHÂTEAU DE MEURSAULT | MEURSAULT
This fine property has gone through some very exciting developments under the direction of Stéphane Follin-Arbelet, whose family own a highly respected domaine in Aloxe Corton. The vineyards under the Château’s ownership cover an extraordinary 65 hectares, from Savigny Les Beaune through to Meursault. In 2022 the estate was certified as fully organic, quite an achievement for a domaine of this size. Against the backdrop of the property’s historical origins, with Cistercian cellars dating back to the 12th century, this dynamic domaine is investing extensively in both the vineyards and the winery, reaching new heights in quality.
Following extensive refurbishment at the striking 18th Century Château, we were delighted to taste with wine maker Emmanuel Escutenaire in their fine new tasting room. Emmanuel commented that at an average of 15 hl/ha, this was the estate’s smallest harvest on record, particularly for their red wine parcels, whose volumes were especially impacted by vintage conditions.
Bourgogne Blanc Clos du Château
£175.00 per 6 bottles IB
Found within the commune of Meursault, just a stone’s throw from the appellational limits, this is a direct and fresh style, with its flavours of lemon curd and citrus zest. The mouth filling dry extract character provides structure and weight, giving length and persistence on the finish.
Drink 2026 - 2028.
Meursault du Château
£330.00 per 6 bottles IB
Made up of four different plots, which sit just below the Château, this is the property’s signature wine and is a superb example of Meursault. Golden yellow in colour, with flavours of white peach and quince. A typically broad Meursault generosity fills the mouth with a ripe, creamy intensity. A degree of hedonistic flamboyance makes this a very joyous cuvée.
Drink 2026 - 2031.
Meursault 1er Cru Charmes Dessus
£495.00 per 6 bottles IB
Made from 3 hectares of estate-owned vines on the upper slopes, this wine has a greater degree of definition and more mineral energy than wines from lower down. An array of yellow stone fruits on the nose: quince, greengage and apricots. A rich unctuous style, with some spicy oak, vanilla and walnut notes on the finish. A total pleasure. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Meursault 1er Cru Perrières
£630.00 per 6 bottles IB
This cuvée comes from a single hectare on the boundary of Puligny and so has the pristine purity that you would expect from such a location. This is the liveliest of the Château’s Meursaults in 2024, combining pink grapefruit with riper notes of apricot on the nose. The palate also has verve, with a sherbet-inspired energy that makes it moreishly mouth-watering. Over a few years, the wine will settle and reveal its more composed side. A wine with immense potential. Drink 2026 - 2038.
Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes
£340.00 per 6 bottles IB
This particular Premier Cru site has white marble terroir which gives the wine its power and personality. Higher up in the appellation of Volnay, Clos des Chênes receives plenty of sunlight resulting in a riper, more concentrated style. Fresh summer fruit aromas, tayberry and loganberry, with a hint of nutmeg . A noticeable volume on the palate, showing off its warm sunny location, there is excellent richness, with a sweet rounded tannic texture. Great persistence on the finish. Drink 2029 - 2042.
Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epenots
£495.00 per 6 bottles IB
The Domaine’s Epenots is always a more elegant example of Pommard. This is a bright energetic style, with bags of bright zesty fresh red fruit flavours. Full of energy and with fine sandy tannins, the wine builds on the palate and has a mouth-watering finish of sweet cherry and spice. Lovely! Drink 2028 - 2040.
Corton Les Marechaudes Grand Cru
£875.00 per 6 bottles IB
The Domaine owns a substantial 1.5 hectares of this steep Grand Cru site. A firmly structured Marechaudes this year, with abundant fresh currants and red cherry. Tightly knit, with a central tannic core providing intensity and structure leading to both great length and complexity. Drink 2029 - 2045.
DOMAINE JEAN-MARC BOILLOT |
PULIGNY MONTRACHET
Bearing the name of founder Jean-Marc, this Domaine is now managed by his daughter Lydie and husband François. This outstanding estate owes its origin to an inheritance from Jean-Marc’s grandfather Etienne Sauzet. Jean-Marc learnt his trade as winemaker at Sauzet, before setting up his own 11-hectare Domaine with some of the finest vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. More recently they have purchased a further 10 hectares in the Mâconnais. Their vinification process is designed to express the purity of Puligny fruit: a short cold settling of 24 hours follows pressing, followed by 11 months élevage with a weekly bâtonnage before bottling.
After a bumper crop from the 2023 vintage, Lydie explained that yields are smaller in 2024, but she wasn’t disheartened. There are lots of exciting plans at the Domaine, including a new cuvée from their new vineyard in Beaune Clos des Mouches! Although the unrelenting rain disrupted flowering, instantly reducing the potential for generous yields, the Domaine were able use a variety of treatments to protect the grapes, as luckily, they are still currently in conversion to organic certification. This is a brilliant vintage from Lydie, the wines have bright acidity and gorgeous ripe of fruit.
Puligny Montrachet
£295.00 per 6 bottles IB
Two hectares of village Puligny from a selection of 7 vineyard locations makes for a super representation of the commune’s wine. The nose is one of lively citrus, with aromas of blood orange and fresh pink grapefruit. At its core, there is a straight and direct line of minerality which is softened by sweet ripe peach fruitiness. The complexity of this wine far outweighs its village status. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne
£390.00 per 6 bottles IB
The highest of Puligny’s Premiers Crus, La Garenne sits below the treeline overlooking the village on cool and chalky soils with very thins soils. This is a beautiful wine with poised power. Lemon and lime zest dominate the nose, with lively sherbet and super fresh stoniness in the mouth. This will delight any classic Puligny-lover.
Drink 2026 - 2034.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts
£425.00 per 6 bottles IB
A lower lying Premier Cru in Puligny with a combination of clay and rocky, stony soils, this is a hugely sought after location amongst the growers in the village. This wine is always bold, complex, and long. Lydie has used 25% new oak in the elevage for this wine, which is beautifully integrated and adds a creamy, pastry note. This has a broad and open appeal with juicy apricot perfectly balancing the oak.
Drink 2025 - 2033.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet
£425.00 per 6 bottles IB
The vineyard’s close proximity to Meursault shines through in the naturally exuberant nature of this wine. A combination of clotted cream, pannacotta and lime zest lift all the aromatic sensations. Despite all the richness and generosity, it has a noticeable tension and underlying core of muscle. The finish is gorgeously hedonistic, with notes of buttered croissant and hazelnut and fabulous length. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes
£525.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
One of Puligny’s senior Premiers Crus and Lydie’s father, Jean-Marc’s favourite within the family’s portfolio of Premiers Crus. The team used weekly bâtonnage for this cuvée to encourage the texture, flavour, and complexity of the wine. The layered scent of honeysuckle and jasmine are flattered by white peach with notes of tarragon. Immediate pleasure with this wine that is very much ready for business with its mouth-watering texture. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Beaune Blanc 1er Cru Clos des Mouches
£595.00 per 3 bottles IB | Very Limited
This is the first vintage of Lydie’s Clos des Mouches, and there is plenty to be excited about. This is one of Beaune’s most highly respected Premiers Crus, located between Corton Charlemagne, Pommard and Puligny Montrachet. The Chardonnay vines are planted on the stony, higher ground making a wine with richness and limestone minerality. This has a fresh, citrus attack, leading onto creamier lemon posset flavours with hints of apricot and yellow nectarine. Very supple and fine, such a delight to taste. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
£1,050.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
Whilst Bâtard-Montrachet has the same substructure as its neighbour Le Montrachet, it has a greater proportion of topsoil. The impact is to produce a flamboyant, powerful and generous Grand Cru. Domaine Jean Marc Boillot has just under 1/5 of a hectare on the Chassagne boundary, so this wine is a real rarity. Ripe peach and juicy blood orange dominate the palate with herbal hints of rosemary and thyme. There is a stunning layer of white blossom which flows onto warm apple tart and flaky pastries. Generous and round and ending with a pure saline finish. An absolute showstopper. Drink 2028 - 2038.
DOMAINE JACQUES CARILLON |
PULIGNY MONTRACHET
The old sign hanging from Jacques Carillon’s cellar doors, with a crouched vigneron sickle in hand and a simple date 1532, sadly hangs no more since the brothers split the family domaine in 2010. The sentiment though remains. The Carillons are a Puligny dynasty, whose hands have arguably touched more of the famous commune’s soil than any other. Jacques Carillon represents the seventh generation managing 5 hectares, the majority of which lie in Puligny. His humility in producing some of the finest white wines in the Cotes is extraordinary to behold, his outlook is one of simplicity summed up in his thoughts: “The pleasure of wine is a pleasure linked to the memory of both the ground and man.”
His wine making philosophy is to keep it simple. The grapes arrive at the cellar door in the finest condition, pressed and settled over 18 hours, fermented in oak, never more than 25% new, even for the Bâtard. 10 months elevage in cask, a racking and then a further 6 months in tank to retain the integrity, freshness, fruit and precision in his wines. If we were to use one word to sum up his style, it would be purity. The energy and vibrance of the 2024 offers this purity in spades.
Chassagne Montrachet
Price TBC
These relatively young vines were planted in 2013 but perform in quality as if they are significantly older. The domaine style for crisp purity shines though, not a rich fat broad Chassagne, but one of racy vibrant citrus fruits with a subtle and long nutty finish.
Drink 2026 - 2031.
Puligny Montrachet
Price TBC
From 40-year-old vines, this a fresh, bright zesty Puligny, which comes from seven different lieux dits starting on the Meursault side, some in the middle of the village and the final plot close to Chassagne so a very complete example of the commune. A charming mandarin-scented nose. Honeyed and poised, with a glossy clarity. Refreshing and persistent. The perfect expression of village Puligny Montrachet. Drink 2026 - 2033.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet
Price BC
The most flamboyant of Jacques’s Premiers Crus, but this still has control and restraint. Champ-Canet sits on the higher slopes alongside Meursault Perrières and he describes it as having a Meursault suppleness. Shining bright lime colour, with a sticky toffee pudding and fresh cream character. The fruit flavours of white peaches and nectarine with hints of spice on the finish give pleasure and reward. Drink 2027 - 2035.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières
Price TBC
The stony nature of the soils within this vineyard makes for a wine of great clarity with a saline mineral soul. Sadly, volumes will be considerably reduced this vintage, not only due to the sparsity of the 2024 crop, but also because Jacques grubbed up 30% of his 0.6 hectare as part of his replanting programme. Flavours of fresh kiwi and watermelon, the salinity and freshness are very apparent, with a rewarding finish of clotted cream and a touch of spiced oak. Drink 2027 - 2036.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts
Price TBC
Tasting in Jacques cellar, the nose was a little restrained, but the weight and texture of this high-class wine really came through on the palate and are likely to be the cause of the subdued aromatics. A wine full of vigour and energy, creamy in texture, with flavours of kumquat and quince. Tremendously layered, with a weighty dry matter mouthfeel, superbly nuanced and complex. Drink 2027 - 2039.
DOMAINE COFFINET-DUVERNAY |
CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET
When we first started working with Philippe Duvernay, we launched his domaine as the unsung hero from the village of Chassagne Montrachet. Today, the genie is out the bottle, and anybody who knows their Côte de Beaune estates will be fully aware of the outstanding quality Coffinet Duvernay has achieved under the guidance of his son Bastien. The domine was only founded in the mid-1980s, following the marriage of Philippe Duvernay from Rully in the Côte Chalonnaise and Laura Coffinet, a member of one of the most established families in Chassagne. Together they have created an enviable 7-hectare domaine with, unusually, all their vineyard holdings exclusively in just one commune, Chassagne Montrachet, comprised of some of the finest sites the appellation has to offer.
Bastien’s winemaking philosophy is one of minimal intervention. His preference is to respect a vintage style and let the wines speak for themselves. He will only intervene if a specific cuvée absolutely needs it, an approach made easy in the 2024 vintage. With no chaptalisation, his wines alcohol levels are at the traditional levels of between 12% to 13% ABV. The wines eschew excess, with poise and a total focus on their Chassagne terroir identity.
Chassagne Montrachet
£235.00 per 6 bottles IB
The fruit for this excellent cuvée comes from 3 separate plots, one situated near Puligny, a central parcel, and the third by the Premier Cru Champs Gain. A soft easy approachable style, this is a Chassagne to give pleasure in its youth. Almost herbal aromatics, fresh thyme and bay leaf. An easy style, with subtle Chardonnay creaminess and Chassagne texture. Drink 2026 - 2030.
Chassagne Montrachet Blanchots Dessous
£290.00 per 6 bottles IB
Sitting alongside Criots Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru, Bastien and Philippe feel the characteristics of Blanchots Dessous are so distinctive and so good that they merit bottling separately to the rest of their village parcels. A firm identity of fresh spice and ripe yellow stone fruit aromas, with a layered structure giving both body and depth.
Drink 2027 - 2033.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St Jean
£330.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
[Not tasted] The Clos St Jean vineyard sits high up on the Chassagne hillside and, as a cooler location, one expects a drive of minerality in this wine. The palate typically shows a racy saline bite reflecting its location. This is a highly prestigious Premier Cru, although not tasted at the time of our visit we have confidence as always it will be quite excellent.
Drink 2027 - 2035.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Maltroie
£330.00 per 6 bottles IB
This Premier Cru sits plumb in the middle of the appellation and is always considered the quintessential Chassagne Montrachet. More aromatically citrus-led than some years, with a moreish sherbet lemon and hints of florality. Always showcasing the vineyard’s characteristic broad shoulders, it has a fine mouth-watering freshness thanks to the cooler conditions, with notes of clementine and cracked chestnuts on the finish. Drink 2027 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champgains
£330.00 per 6 bottles IB | Very Limited
[Not tasted.] A very centrally located Premier Cru, recognised as a warm site with rich soils, so unsurprisingly it makes a flamboyant wine and tends towards more exotic fruit flavours.
Drink 2027 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru
Morgeot Les Grands Clos
£330.00 per 6 bottles IB
[Not tasted] A very fine parcel within the Premier Cru Morgeot, Les Grands Clos always produces a very classical Chassagne Montrachet with both texture and earthy layered rusticity.
Drink 2028 - 2038.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Fairendes
£375.00 per 6 bottles IB
Fairendes is a lieu-dit within the better-known Premier Cru of Morgeot, and the Coffinets bottle this plot separately. Bastien feels it is so graceful and poised that its unique quality would be lost if included in their other parcel of Morgeot. A real favourite of ours. Shimmering lime colour and floral aromatics of rose petal and jasmine. Whilst there is body and depth here, the essential character is one of charm and finesse, finishing with flavours of almond and white peach. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets
£485.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
At almost 80 years’ old, this is the Domaine’s oldest vineyard situated on a famously chalky stone-based soils. A small but prized location for the domaine, which is characterised by its mineral energy. A combination of mandarin and acacia honey scent. This wine is so coherent and polished, with each dimension sitting perfectly alongside the other; controlled and textured, it has a silky purity, and the finish is deliciously mouth-watering with flavours of fresh grapefruit and lemon posset. Drink 2027 - 2036.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Blanchots Dessus
£295.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
This extraordinary Premier Cru parcel is the envy of all the growers in the village: a unique plot of vines just below the great Le Montrachet! Comprising 1.16 hectares in total, the Coffinets are one of seven owners in this prized vineyard, with 0.06 hectares. With the same aromatic confidence as its Grand Cru neighbour, fresh double cream, panna cotta and pecan nut spring to mind. Mouth coating in texture, with a creamy richness, this is flamboyant and self-confident, with a fine degree of earthy terroir grip. So much body and depth, this goes on forever – quite simply a total star. Drink 2027 - 2038.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Dent de Chien
£650.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
An enviable and miniscule Premier Cru of just 0.6 hectares, sitting on the south-westerly side of Grand Cru Le Montrachet. The Coffinets are the largest owners in the appellation, owning 1/3rd of the site, and their style is one for others to aspire to. A wine of tremendous power and depth, with a noticeable density of fruit, this is broad and full, its obvious richness kept refreshing throughout by a citrus lift that comes through on the finish. Drink 2027 - 2038.
Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
£1,050.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
From the Chassagne side of this great Grand Cru, Bastien likes to use 50% new oak casks with a slightly higher degree of toasting than his other barrels for his Bâtard Montrachet, which he feels supports the wine’s obvious structure better. Tasting this outstanding cuvée, his reasoning is absolutely right. Jersey cream and freshly made baguette aromas. A weighted wine, with silky glycerol fullness, flavours of banoffee pie and fresh walnut immediately impress. There is a firm tension underneath this opulence, taking it to a higher level of complexity. Extraordinary length on the finish. Total class.
Drink 2027 - 2039.
DOMAINE BRUNO COLIN | CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET
The village of Chassagne Montrachet has many long-established family names on its CV, but none more so than Colin. Whether under their own name or by marriage, they are interconnected with just about all the great houses in the appellation. Bruno’s inheritance comes from the Colin-Deleger stable, giving him an enviable portfolio of 22 appellations, covering 8.75 hectares. His first vintage was back in 1993, working with his father before setting up on his own in 2004.
Bruno’s vineyards performed exceptionally well in 2024. Last year we reported that 2023 was not an excessively large harvest at the domaine and it seems that the preserved energy from that year has helped the vines in their production for this vintage. That, along with exemplary vineyard management in the challenging months of June and July, means he harvested a healthy crop yielding nearer to 50hl/ha, unheard of amongst many estates in 2024.
Bourgogne Blanc
Early Release | £125.00 per 6 bottles IB
The Domaine’s Bourgogne Blanc comes from four different locations just outside the appellation of Chassagne Montrachet, some of which historically produced red wine, but in recent years have been replaced with Chardonnay vines to satisfy the growing demand for Côte de Beaune white wine. Aromas of banana and greengage. Approachable, with lively fresh apple and pear characters. A fine modern example of early drinking white Burgundy. Drink 2026 - 2029.

Drink 2026 - 2032.

Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chaumées

Drink 2027 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes
Early Release | £450.00 per 6 bottles IB
Very Limited
The historical site of an old hemp field, this is a slightly cooler location amongst the Chassagne Premiers Crus and therefore creates wines with natural energy and brightness. One of Bruno’s smallest cuvées, so volumes are carefully restricted in a year such as 2024. A very classical style, combining the earthy notes we seek from the appellation with both fullness and tension. Plenty of citrus fruits, lemon posset and sorbet, mix well with hints of a vanilla pod sweetness. A gorgeous lift of acidity on the finish both refreshes the wine and gives length and complexity. Drink 2027 - 2038.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers
Early Release | £450.00 per 6 bottles IB

An easy-going, accessible style, with charming white floral characteristics, jasmine and narcissus. Soft and silky in the palate and made perfectly complete by its finish of whipped Chantilly cream. Lovely.
Drink 2026 - 2035.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Maltroie
Early Release | £465.00 per 6 bottles IB
La Maltroie is a Premier Cru that always makes its presence felt, characterised by its breadth and generous fruit. From three different parcels planted between 1952 and 1989. An array of warm exotic summer fruits, quince, tangerine, passion fruit and prickle of lemon sherbet. This is the full Monty, with its creamy generosity, and finish of toasty Crunchy Nut Cornflake. Long and wonderfully indulgent. Drink 2026 - 2038.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru La Boudriotte
Early Release | £465.00 per 6 bottles IB
Very Limited
A tiny section of 2 hectares within the more recognised Premier Cru of Morgeot, Bruno’s plot is just ¼ hectare of 70-year-old vines. A creamy nose, with some fresh almond and oaked spice. Full and intense on the palate, with a dry matter, tannic structure. Weighty and self-confident, with a rewarding flavoursome finish of fresh clotted cream and spiced cinnamon bun. Drink 2027 - 2038.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
Early Release | £465.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited
Morgeot is the largest Premier Cru in the Côte d’Or at 58 hectares, surpassing even Clos Vougeot (51 hectares). Unsurprisingly therefore, there are a huge variety of styles and quality levels. Coming from 60-year-old vines planted in 1963, Bruno’s parcel is at the forefront of quality for the appellation. A fragrance of Jersey cream and lychee, extensive flavours of freshly baked bread and buttered croissant, this has real substance with its fine weighted texture. Long and classy. (We had the 1990 with Bruno made by his grandfather and it was sensational, still so alive – it keeps!)
Drink 2027 - 2039.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru En Remilly
Early Release | £625.00 per 6 bottles IB
Very Limited
One of Chassagne Montrachet’s flagship Premiers Crus sitting just above Grand Cru Chevalier Montrachet. The higher altitude, rocky location produces a wine with extraordinary intensity and mineral direction. This is a wine which combines charm and grace, with a drive of mineral energy. Such a beautiful cuvée with subtle characters of fresh apricot and pink grapefruit; it is so full of life and zest. Superb. Drink 2028 - 2040.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière
Early Release | £740.00 per 6 bottles IB
Very Limited
La Truffière is one of two Premiers Crus Bruno owns in Puligny Montrachet. Situated just below the hamlet of Blagny, it takes its name from the Burgundy truffle which flourished here historically when vines were less prolific and profitable. Graceful and silky with honeysuckle scent and a honeyed velvety texture. Beautifully pure and, whilst it has a sweet, caramelised sensation, it is so refreshing with a cool tangy lift at the end. Drink 2028 - 2040.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus
Early Release | Sold Out
The envy of the village, this vineyard sits between Le Montrachet and Criots Bâtard Montrachet and is just over 1 hectare in size. Bruno is one of seven lucky growers to have a piece of the action. Stylistically though it is more reflective of Bâtard Montrachet, always so full of opulence, characters of banana toffee, spices with a slight smoky edge. Opulent and flamboyant with its exuberant crème anglaise and pain aux raisins flavours on the finish. All the dimensions of a Grand Cru.
Drink 2027 - 2040.
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Demoiselles
Early Release | £595.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
The favourite wine of Bruno’s father Michel, this is Puligny’s rarest Premier Cru within the exceptional Cailleret locality, making up the last few rows of vines before joining Grand Cru Le Montrachet and sitting just below Chevalier Montrachet. At just 0.6 ha this is a Puligny’s jewel, the equivalent to Clos St Jacques in Gevrey Chambertin. Just having the opportunity to taste this extraordinary rarity is an experience in itself. The wine leans more to Chevalier in style. A mineral schistous soil like aroma, a medley of flavours from panna cotta to lemon cheesecake and a honeyed silkiness. Beautifully complete and an appealing crunchy nut finish. Heading to perfection! Drink 2028 - 2044.
Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru
Early Release | £750.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
Bruno buys in the fruit for this cuvée, so it is his only wine as a negociant. A very floral wine this year, lavender and basil spring to mind. Not a flashy Corton, it is more controlled in style, with a taut mineral reserve. Very complex, thought provoking and classy.
Drink 2028 - 2042.
Bâtard Montrachet Grand Cru
Early Release | £575.00 per single bottle IB | On Allocation
Bruno’s tasting was our last of the day and Ruairi from our sales team looked at me rather starry eyed and said, “you know this is the 6th Batard we have tasted today!” What a way to finish, this is quite sensational. Aromas of peony, summer flowers and freshly kneaded dough. It shows the perfect control between full weighty fruit flavours and a tight integrity. Wines of such breeding come into their own with age, and this would be crying shame to attack to early, as greatness awaits it. Drink 2029 - 2048.
Chevalier Montrachet Grand Cru
Early Release | £900.00 per single bottle IB | On Allocation
The vines were planted by Bruno’s grandfather in 1962. Chevalier should never be ostentatious; it is a charming and subtly supple wine. Floral and perfumed, rose petal and gardenia. This is like a ballerina in full flow, a thing of beauty, it dances across the tongue. Velvety smoothness with a soft acacia honey texture. Quite simply no rough edges, totally wonderful. Irresistible in its youth, but huge aging potential.
Drink 2028 - 2045.
Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Rouge
Early Release | £215.00 per 6 bottles IB | Limited

Drink 2027 - 2036.
DOMAINE LAMY-PILLOT |
CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET
New to our portfolio with the 2023 vintage, we were delighted with how well this domaine was received last year. The Lamy and Pillot names are VIPs in the Côte de Beaune. Domaine Lamy-Pillot was founded by René Lamy, whose brother Hubert Lamy’s estate is situated in St Aubin. René cut his teeth at the famed Duc de Magenta estate, the most significant owners of Le Montrachet vineyard, before focusing his full attention on his own vineyards in the mid-1970s. Today, this fine 15-hectare estate is run by his two daughters and their husbands; Florence and Sebastien focusing on the vineyards and winery, whilst Karine and her husband Daniel look after the commercial business.
Florence and Sebastien’s preferred style is for wines of thoughtful restraint. Subtlety is the name of the game here, and they are a joy to taste. These are white wines with great energy and parcel identity. They are also an exciting estate for red wines, valuing the village’s historical reputation for making excellent Pinot Noir with a particularly fine holding in the well respected Morgeot vineyard. Despite the testing conditions in 2024, Sebastien really appreciates the style, quoting its energy and lift. For him, the white wine yields were satisfactory at 45 hl/ha; it was the reds which suffered the most from a small crop.
St Aubin 1er Cru Le Charmois
Price TBC
The Lamy-Pillot family has half a hectare of this prestigious Premier Cru, sitting on the border of Chassagne Montrachet Premier Cru Le Chaumée. Aromas of oranges and lemons, there is striking, cool directness about this wine, with fresh, zesty sorbet notes. It fills out on the back end of the palate, with a finish of praline parfait. A very enjoyable style. Drink 2026 - 2031.
Chassagne Montrachet
Price TBC
The domaine owns two hectares of village Chassagne, with two parcels on the Puligny side of the village and three lying in the southern sector of the village heading towards Santenay. This was quite shy and reserved when we tasted. Fresh citrus aromas, the wine has plenty of body and structure; its personality will evolve in bottle and show its true class in time. All the potential to be an outstanding mature aged white Burgundy which will thrill Chassagne lovers who remember this style from a previous era. Drink 2027 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet Pot Bois
Price TBC
The family are the largest owners of this well recognised lieu dit, which sits on one of the highest locations in the village above the highly esteemed Premier Cru Cailleret. Despite its cooler, easterly facing slopes, the impression is a wine from a much warmer location. It has a richness and nuttiness to it, no doubting the Caillerets tension, but it finishes broad and very full, with great persistence. Drink 2027 - 2037.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
Price TBC
This is made up from two different lieux dits, Les Fairendes and Les Petits Clos, both respected for producing some of the finest Chardonnay within Morgeot. Shimmering lemon-yellow colour, with a striking medley of fruit on the nose: peaches, lychee and guava. A full and unctuous palate, this is such a giving and voluptuous style with a finish of buttered croissant and hazelnuts. Drink 2027 - 2038.
Chassagne Montrachet Rouge Champs de Morgeot
Price TBC
Last century Chassagne Montrachet’s reputation was more for red wine than white, and Morgeot held an esteemed position amongst the older vignerons for the quality of its Pinot Noir. Radiant crimson colour, full of Victoria plum, loganberry and dark cherry. A textured wine, with an earthy tannic edge, deep and intense with a lovely, sweet edge on the finish. Drink 2027 - 2037.
DOMAINE MARC COLIN |
CHASSAGNE MONTRACHET
Brother and sister Damien and Caroline make a formidable team running this fifth-generation estate and its enviable collection of 12 hectares of vineyards in the communes of St Aubin and Chassagne. The benefits of their larger wine making facilities are eveident in the quality of their wines. The additional space allows them to rack and bottle their wines later than previous years, guaranteeing their preferred 18-month élevage before bottling; 12 in cask contributing to the weight and depth in their wines, followed by a further 6 on lees in vat which, in Damien’s view, improves the sense of precision on the wines.
Our tasting with Damien was the final tasting of our 3 weeks in Burgundy this Autumn and what a fantastic finale. This was a long and tiring vintage for Damien, as he revealed that 10% of his potential crop was lost in April due to frost, and then the rain that followed further reduced his yields. The Domaine practises organic farming, however, they have the benefit of not being certified which meant they could use a very small chemical spray after flowering to secure the maximum yield possible. Naturally, yields are much smaller than 2023 but Damien’s special focus on pH, harvest dates and the sorting table have created wines that are balanced, pure and offer real delight.
St Aubin 1er Cru Les Castets
£225.00 per 6 bottles IB
The last of St Aubin’s Premiers Crus as you leave it heading northwest, Les Castets is perfectly positioned at the bottom of the village, a cooler location but south facing. The plot always easily reaches full ripeness and the vines have plenty of energy. Aromas of ripe apricot and melon lead to an approachable sweet-fruited palate. Plenty of peach, apricot and light croissant notes provide reassuring richness. Super fresh and lively on the finish.
Drink 2026 - 2032.
St Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly
£294.00 per 6 bottles IB
This wine comes from a brilliant 1.5 hectare plot above Chevalier Montrachet. From five different parcels on the hillside which they blend together after the completion of vinification. White, thin soil here makes a wine with buckets of vibrancy. Lemon, lime and a touch of grapefruit are present on the nose, with sweet apricot and lemon tart flavours that are indulgent and lingering. The long silky finish wraps up this delicious tasting experience. Drink 2027 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet Cuvée Margot
£294.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
Named after Damien’s grandmother Margot who was the source of his and Caroline’s prized Le Montrachet vineyard. They have 4 parcels here all on the Puligny side of the appellation, creating a restrained mineral style of Chassagne. This has brilliant balance between the zesty citrus core and a generous orange and almond density. Extremely approachable in its youth. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Puligny Montrachet Les Enseignières
£294.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
Whilst Enseignières is a prized village location sitting just below the great Bienvenues Bâtard Montrachet, Damien says their cuvée’s real merit is that the vines are 70 years old, and it is this which gives the wine its quality and depth. Just 3 barrels were made in this tough year and so no new oak was used, as it would be too much for the cuvée. White blossom and rose on the nose with a direct mineral freshness in the mouth leading to baked apple and an edge of passion fruit. Absolutely stunning.
Drink 2026 - 2031.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs Gains
£420.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
This is a warm, mid-sloped Premier Cru sit with lots of clay and was very affected by the rain. There are some very old vines here which are over 60 years old, contributing structure and elegance. Aromas of pineapple and lychee, with a beautiful creaminess and croissant flavour with lemon curd. This is open and charming but will also keep very well in bottle. Drink 2028 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes
£420.00 per 6 bottles IB | On Allocation
One of Chassagne’s last Premiers Crus before you arrive at St Aubin. It combines the earthy structure of Chassagne with its neighbour’s racy tension. From such a small plot with 30cm of soil and rocky limestone below, this has a nose of jasmine and peony with a mouthwatering pineapple acidity and a mango and kiwi juiciness. Concentrated and layered, with subtle fresh brioche notes on the finish. Lovely.
Drink 2027 - 2033.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vide Bourses
£240.00 per 3 bottles IB | On Allocation
Only 1.3 hectares, Les Vide Bourses has a reputation for being one of Chassagne’s boldest and most generous Premier Crus; not a surprise for a vineyard which is a terroir extension of Bâtard Grand Cru. Extremely complex with notes of walnut, pecan tart and sweet smoke but kept bright with a menthol freshness and a beautiful supple stoniness. Damien describes this as being easily ‘readable’ as the flavours unfurl. Stunning. Drink 2028 - 2034.
DOMAINE JUSTIN GIRARDIN | SANTENAY
The Girardin family and their wines embody the true values of a classic Burgundian domaine. The family history dates to 1570, and their vineyard holding of 17 hectares represents a sizeable estate in Burgundian terms, reflecting the family’s standing and position in the southern end of the Côte de Beaune. The young and extremely talented Justin, now in his early 30s, assumed total control in 2015 and his wines just get better and better with each year.
Justin’s policy is for minimum levels of intervention in the winery, all made possible by his meticulously attentive vineyard management techniques. He is a man of the soil, and describes himself as a winegrower, not a winemaker. Most of his time is spent in the vineyard, working with each of their parcels and constantly adjusting to what they see and feel on the vines. 2024 was hard and tiring for Justin and his team, the rain creating an environment that was physically and mentally tough. With some parcels yielding less than the 2021 vintage, they were anxious to see the results: luckily the grapes that we harvested were fantastic quality, creating good natural alcohol levels and maturity.
Santenay Blanc Les Terrasses de Bievaux
£130.00 per 6 bottles IB
This is a domaine-owned vineyard which has steeply terraced, naturally cool slopes, giving this wine excellent freshness. The nose displays a sweet, crystalline fruit, with notes of lemon zest and mango, while the palate has delicious flavours of ripe yellow peach and lemon. Fresh and lively, this is such an easily enjoyable wine. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Meursault
£240.00 per 6 bottles IB
This is a fresh and fruity style of Meursault: jasmine and rose dance on the nose. This has a delightful weight as it is creamy and rich without being too cloying or intense. Lemon, apple and apricot combine on the palate with hints on pain au raisin, ending with a fresh acidity to balance the fruit. An approachable wine giving much youthful pleasure. Drink 2026 - 2031.
Meursault Les Clous
£265.00 per 6 bottles IB
From a parcel that sits high on the slope, just above the Premier Cru vineyard sites, Les Clous is defined by its limestone soil and revered for balancing complexity with approachability. There is great density of ripe peach and nectarine fruit with whisps of smokiness and baked apple tart aromas. A divine, silky mouthfeel with a steely energy on the finish. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot
£445.00 per 6 bottles IB
Morgeot is the largest Premier Cru in the village of Chassagne Montrachet with many subdivisions and a variety of expressions. Girardin’s interpretation is one of aromatic intensity and textural elegance. The clay-limestone soil gives the wine a balance of minerality and generosity of fruit. Rose and lemon notes on the nose give way to apricot and peach and passion fruit curd on the palate. Wrapped up by subtle toastiness and a stony finish. A very complete and satisfying Chassagne. Drink 2026 - 2035.
Santenay Rouge 1er Cru Clos Rousseau
£135.00 per 6 bottles IB
High up on the southern boundary of the Santenay appellation, this is a relatively cool vineyard which produced exceptional wine in 2024. A crimson colour with very ripe berry character. Red cherry, cranberries, and a touch of fruits of the forest with a smoky edge. Suede like tannins are long lived and intertwine with sweet fruit on the finish. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Savigny lès Beaune Rouge 1er Cru Les Peuillets
£145.00 per 6 bottles IB
Les Peuillets is the final Premier Cru vineyard before arriving at the slopes of Beaune. Here the warm, sandy soils produce an affable style of wine and Girardin is the master of such expression. A brilliant ruby-red colour with gorgeous aromatics of red cherry, red plum and jasmine. On the palate freshly crushed cranberry and red cherry are complemented by cedar notes and a gentle clove spice. Impeccably smooth and ripe tannins. This will drink wonderfully young but will improve. Drink 2026 - 2035.
DOMAINE ELODIE ROY | CHEILLY-LES-MARANGES
After studying law at university and working in banking for several years, Elodie decided that the corporate world was not for her and that she wanted to forge a career as a winemaker. At the time, it wasn’t practical for Elodie to return to the family domaine, which had been developed by her grandfather Robert and her father Pierre. She therefore sought opportunities further north in the Côte de Nuits, where she spent 11 years assisting Anne Gros in Vosne Romanée. After this enviable apprenticeship, Elodie returned to the family domaine in 2018, taking over their 10 hectares in Maranges, the most southerly appellation of the Côte de Beaune.
The sharp frosts of 21st April and 1st May 2024 were not kind to the vignerons of Maranges, hitting the young shoots and buds hard. This was the root cause for yield reduction of 50% for Elodie and many of her neighbours this vintage. Although the growing season saw increased levels of rainfall, the excellent weather at the end of August and early September allowed her to continue her chosen practice of later picking (on 19th September). A vintage for her where she describes the berries as being very small, but with great intensity and of very high quality.
Bourgogne Pinot Noir
£105.00 per 6 bottles IB
The fruit for this cuvée comes from vines planted in a clay-dominant vineyard at the edge of Maranges in 1963. Radiant purple colour. An array of berry fruits jump out of the glass, tayberry, loganberry and bilberry. An extremely silky and elegant Pinot Noir, with a forward drinking profile. Easy and charming. Drink 2026 - 2032.
Maranges La Rue des Pierres
£120.00 per 6 bottles IB
The vines for this village-level cuvée were planted in 1972 in vineyards bordering the commune of Santenay. This vineyard escaped the frost, so a very healthy production in 2024 and Elodie destalked 100% of the fruit, to allow all the sweetness of its red cherry flavours to shine through. The soil structure always gives this wine a mid-palate core, but it is the depth of fruit which is very much the lasting impression. Drink 2027 - 2036.
Maranges Les Goty
£130.00 per 6 bottles IB
This vineyard sits immediately over the road and underneath three Premiers Crus sites: Le Clos Roussots, Clos de la Boutière and Petit Clos Rousseau. Elodie’s Le Goty vines produce small, intensely flavoursome berries, which she believes show their best with a proportion of whole bunch fermentation (60%). A floral scent of rose petal, and summer red fruits. A plush and juicy style, the tannins are subtle and rounded and the lasting impression is sweetness and ripe mature fruit. Drink 2026 - 2036.
Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravières
£160.00 per 6 bottles IB
In the 19th century the vineyards of Santenay were prized above those of Côte de Nuits appellations such as Vosne Romanée. Although the commune has since been overlooked in favour of its northerly neighbours, Les Gravières continues to enjoy its reputation as the best-known Premier Cru in Santenay. The light, stony soils implied in the name, coupled with old vines planted in 1952 & 1952, combine to make a wine that many grander appellations aspire to. A touch of mocha, Arabian spice, and blueberry scent. The opening attack is a feeling of confidence prior to a chalky minerality, reining the wine back. A very thoughtful style, classy and great value. Drink 2028 - 2039.
CHÂTEAU DE FUISSÉ | POUILLY FUISSÉ
Based in the heart of the village of Fuissé, this 15th century property, run by the Vincent family since the 1860s, is unquestionably the flagship domaine for the wines of Pouilly Fuissé and Saint Veran. Now in the hands of fifth generation Antoine, the Vincents are masters of their craft. Known as Chardonnay specialists par excellence, they focus on the finest terroir that the Mâcon has to offer, covering five of the region’s appellations.
Since 2020, the appellation of Pouilly Fuissé has rightly been recognised as Burgundian aristocracy, with its finest locations now being awarded Premier Cru status. Outside the famed vineyards of the Côte de Beaune, the wines of Château de Fuissé offer some of the finest examples of Chardonnay’s complexity and sophistication, not only from France but around the world; these are must-buys within their category.
Pouilly Fuissé Tête de Cuvée
£145.00 per 6 bottles IB
The estate’s flagship Pouilly Fuissé; fruit is sourced from forty different parcels, which are made up of a combination of clay, marl, and limestone. 50% barrel fermented, with the rest in tank, this is everything you could want from a Pouilly Fuissé: fresh lemon and lime on the nose with some ripe red apple. A beautiful round creaminess on the palate softens the bright acidity and is so moreish. Perfectly balanced with a long full finish.
Drink 2025 - 2030.
Pouilly Fuissé Les Combettes
£220.00 per 6 bottles IB
A 1.4 hectare vineyard nestled next to Premier Cru Les Perrières, this is fabulous terroir with the perfect soil combination of limestone and clay for growing Chardonnay. Intense freshness from the limestone is balanced by brioche and pastry aromas with touches of blood orange and indulgent toffee. A lovely, stony finish keeps it delightfully refreshing. Drink 2026 - 2034.
Pouilly Fuissé 1er Cru Les Brûlés
£265.00 per 6 bottles IB
The most flamboyant and hedonistic of the Domaine’s cuvées. As the name suggests, this is the warmest location at the domaine, with south facing slopes that are bathed in sunshine. Aromatics of spice, toast and cinnamon dusted tarte Tatin. There is such charm and exuberance to this wine, with its creamy richness and lovely flavours of freshly buttered crumpet. Totally, irresistibly delicious! Drink 2026 - 2032.
Pouilly Fuissé 1er Cru Le Clos Monopole
£275.00 per 6 bottles IB
This walled vineyard has been part of the Château since the 15th century and is home to vines between 40 and 90 years of age. The easterly exposed vineyards sit at 295m altitude, bringing depth and complexity. Gorgeously aromatic, notes of pear, baked apple and fresh croissant leap out of the glass. The serious complexity is shown on the palate with juicy stone fruits and a ripe waxy mouthfeel. Orange starburst and aniseed mingle to create a sweet and sour balance. Such a pleasure to taste. Drink 2027 - 2035.
